Abstract
A firearm has a frame and a barrel connected to the frame. An insert received by the barrel is separable into a rear position and a forward portion, and the rear portion is threadably engaged to the forward portion. Both the rear portion and the forward portion defining rifles bores.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to caliper adapters, shotguns, and more particularly, to caliper adapter inserts.

BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY

Caliber adapters are inserted into shotguns to give them the ability to fire a range of bullets, giving the shotgun greater utility.

Current caliber adapters, most common in 12-gauge shotguns, have limited accuracy due to short length. Current typical lengths are 4 to 10 inches and will be inserted into a shotgun with a much longer barrel. Short length also inhibits projectile velocity.

The above disadvantages are addressed by providing a firearm having a frame and a barrel connected to the frame. An insert received by the barrel is separable into a rear position and a forward portion, and the rear portion is threadably engaged to the forward portion. Both the rear portion and the forward portion defining rifles bores.

Having a full length (over 18 inches) insert improves accuracy and velocity. Screwing it apart into 2 halves makes them easy to carry, either on the person or in a special compartment in the stock of the shotgun.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIGS. 1-6 show the process of the inserts being taken out and used.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

FIG. 1 shows them stowed in a compartment in the stock of the gun for easy transport and access. They could also be carried on the person.

FIG. 2 shows the inserts removed and FIG. 3 shows them being screwed together to form one full length insert.

FIG. 4 shows them being slid into the barrel of the shotgun.

FIG. 5 shows the bullet being added into the chamber of the insert.

FIG. 6 illustrates the shotgun is closed and is ready for firing.

FIG. 7 shows the 2 parts. They are joined by male and female threads. As with any caliber adapter they have a chamber and rifled barrel.

Claims
  • 1. A firearm comprising: a frame;a barrel connected to the frame;an insert received by the barrel being separable into a rear position and a forward portion;the rear portion being threadably engaged to the forward portion;both the rear portion and the forward portion defining rifles bores.
