The present invention relates to caliper adapters, shotguns, and more particularly, to caliper adapter inserts.
Caliber adapters are inserted into shotguns to give them the ability to fire a range of bullets, giving the shotgun greater utility.
Current caliber adapters, most common in 12-gauge shotguns, have limited accuracy due to short length. Current typical lengths are 4 to 10 inches and will be inserted into a shotgun with a much longer barrel. Short length also inhibits projectile velocity.
The above disadvantages are addressed by providing a firearm having a frame and a barrel connected to the frame. An insert received by the barrel is separable into a rear position and a forward portion, and the rear portion is threadably engaged to the forward portion. Both the rear portion and the forward portion defining rifles bores.
Having a full length (over 18 inches) insert improves accuracy and velocity. Screwing it apart into 2 halves makes them easy to carry, either on the person or in a special compartment in the stock of the shotgun.
