Claims
- 1. A scroll compressor comprising:
a non-orbiting scroll having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from said base; an orbiting scroll having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from said base; a housing including an end cap enclosing said orbiting and said non-orbiting scroll; a back pressure chamber designed behind said base of said orbiting scroll; and said non-orbiting scroll being held against movement within said end cap without being mechanically fixed to said end cap.
- 2. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 1, wherein said non-orbiting scroll is allowed to move axially within said end cap.
- 3. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 2, wherein a spring biases said non-orbiting scroll towards said orbiting scroll.
- 4. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 1, wherein a discharge pressure chamber is defined between said non-orbiting scroll base and an inner surface of said end cap inner periphery.
- 5. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 1, wherein said non-orbiting scroll has an outer periphery force fit into an inner surface of said end cap.
- 6. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 5, wherein a tube is positioned between said base of said non-orbiting scroll and an inner periphery of said end cap, said tube further assisting in preventing movement of said non-orbiting scroll.
- 7. A scroll compressor comprising:
a non-orbiting scroll having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from said base; an orbiting scroll having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from said base; a housing including an end cap enclosing said orbiting and said non-orbiting scroll; a back pressure chamber designed behind said base of said orbiting scroll; and said non-orbiting scroll being held against movement within said end cap without being mechanically fixed to said end cap, said non-orbiting scroll being allowed to move relative to said end cap, and a spring between said end cap and said non-orbiting scroll and urging said non-orbiting scroll toward said orbiting scroll.
- 8. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 7, wherein a seal is placed between an outer periphery of said base of said non-orbiting scroll and an inner periphery of said end cap.
- 9. A scroll compressor comprising:
a non-orbiting scroll having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from said base; an orbiting scroll having a base and a generally spiral wrap extending from said base; a housing including an end cap enclosing said orbiting and said non-orbiting scroll; a back pressure chamber designed behind said base of said orbiting scroll; and said non-orbiting scroll being held against movement within said end cap without being mechanically fixed to said end cap, and in particular said non-orbiting scroll having a radially outer periphery which is force fit into a radially inner periphery of said end cap.
- 10. A scroll compressor as recited in claim 9, wherein a tube is positioned between said base of said non-orbiting scroll and an inner surface of said end cap, said tube further assisting and preventing movement of said non-orbiting scroll.
