Claims
- 1. A sealing spring fastener comprising:
a U-shaped structure having a first side, a second side, a top end and a bottom end; a spring leg on each side of the U-shaped structure, extending outwardly from said U-shaped structure in a general direction from the bottom end toward the top end, each spring leg having an attached end and a free end; and an elastic body integrally molded on the U-shaped structure at least under the top end, except at least the free end of each extending leg, the elastic body having a closed cavity within the first side and the second side of said U-shaped structure.
- 2. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 1, wherein the elastic body further comprises a gasket extending away from the closed cavity.
- 3. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 1, wherein the elastic body comprises a compound selected from a group consisting of thermoplastic elastomer, silicone, polyurethane, plastisol, and a mixture thereof.
- 4. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 2, wherein the elastic body comprises a compound selected from a group consisting of thermoplastic elastomer, silicone, polyurethane, plastisol, and a mixture thereof.
- 5. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 1, wherein the elastic body comprises a thermoplastic elastomer.
- 6. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 2, wherein the elastic body comprises a thermoplastic elastomer.
- 7. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 5, wherein the thermoplastic elastomer has been molded by injection molding.
- 8. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 6, wherein the thermoplastic elastomer has been molded by injection molding.
- 9. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 1, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet.
- 10. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 2, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 11. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 6, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 12. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 8, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 13. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 1, further comprising barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 14. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 2, further comprising barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 15. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 6, further comprising barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 16. A sealing spring fastener as defined in claim 10, further comprising barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 17. A vehicle comprising two parts connected with a sealing spring fastener, the sealing spring fastener comprising:
a U-shaped structure having a first side, a second side, a top end and a bottom end; a spring leg on each side of the U-shaped structure, extending outwardly from said U-shaped structure in a general direction from the bottom end toward the top end, each spring leg having an attached end and a free end; and an elastic body integrally molded on the U-shaped structure at least under the top end, except at least the free end of each extending leg, the elastic body having a closed cavity within the first side and the second side of said U-shaped structure.
- 18. A vehicle as defined in claim 17, wherein the elastic body further comprises a gasket extending away from the closed cavity.
- 19. A vehicle as defined in claim 17, wherein the elastic body comprises a compound selected from a group consisting of thermoplastic elastomer, silicone, polyurethane, plastisol, and a mixture thereof.
- 20. A vehicle as defined in claim 18, wherein the elastic body comprises a compound selected from a group consisting of thermoplastic elastomer, silicone, polyurethane, plastisol, and a mixture thereof.
- 21. A vehicle as defined in claim 17, wherein the elastic body comprises a thermoplastic elastomer.
- 22. A vehicle as defined in claim 18, wherein the elastic body comprises a thermoplastic elastomer.
- 23. A vehicle as defined in claim 21, wherein the thermoplastic elastomer has been molded by injection molding.
- 24. A vehicle as defined in claim 22, wherein the thermoplastic elastomer has been molded by injection molding.
- 25. A vehicle as defined in claim 17, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet.
- 26. A vehicle as defined in claim 18, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 27. A vehicle as defined in claim 22, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 28. A vehicle as defined in claim 24, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 29. A vehicle as defined in claim 17, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 30. A vehicle as defined in claim 18, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 31. A vehicle as defined in claim 22, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 32. A vehicle as defined in claim 26, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 33. An assembly of a panel having an extension and a sealing spring fastener, the sealing spring fastener comprising:
a U-shaped structure having a first side, a second side, a top end and a bottom end; a spring leg on each side of the U-shaped structure, extending outwardly from said U-shaped structure in a general direction from the bottom end toward the top end, each spring leg having an attached end and a free end; and an elastic body integrally molded on the U-shaped structure at least under the top end, except at least the free end of each extending leg, the elastic body having a closed cavity within the first side and the second side of said U-shaped structure, wherein the extension of the panel is inserted into the closed cavity
- 34. An assembly as defined in claim 33, wherein the elastic body further comprises a gasket extending away from the closed cavity.
- 35. An assembly as defined in claim 33, wherein the elastic body comprises a compound selected from a group consisting of thermoplastic elastomer, silicone, polyurethane, plastisol, and a mixture thereof.
- 36. An assembly as defined in claim 34, wherein the elastic body comprises a compound selected from a group consisting of thermoplastic elastomer, silicone, polyurethane, plastisol, and a mixture thereof.
- 37. An assembly as defined in claim 33, wherein the elastic body comprises a thermoplastic elastomer.
- 38. An assembly as defined in claim 34, wherein the elastic body comprises a thermoplastic elastomer.
- 39. An assembly as defined in claim 37, wherein the thermoplastic elastomer has been molded by injection molding.
- 40. An assembly as defined in claim 38, wherein the thermoplastic elastomer has been molded by injection molding.
- 41. An assembly as defined in claim 33, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet.
- 42. An assembly as defined in claim 34, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 43. An assembly as defined in claim 38, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 44. An assembly as defined in claim 40, wherein the free end of each leg is engageable with a slot of a solid sheet, and the gasket seals the top of the slot upon engagement of the free end of each slot with the slot of said solid sheet.
- 45. An assembly as defined in claim 33, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 46. An assembly as defined in claim 34, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 47. An assembly as defined in claim 38, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
- 48. An assembly as defined in claim 42, wherein the sealing spring fastener further comprises barbs inside the closed cavity having a general direction from the top end toward the bottom end of the U-shaped structure.
