Claims
- 1. A tiltable seat assembly comprising:
a) a first seat member, b) a second seat member movably mounted on the first seat member, c) a spring biasing the second seat member relative to the first seat member, and d) a damper interconnecting between the first seat member and the second seat member.
- 2. A tiltable seat assembly comprising:
a) a first seat member, b) a second seat member movably mounted on the first seat member, c) a spring biasing the second seat member relative to the first seat member, and d) a damper interconnected between the first seat member and the second seat member, the damper further comprising;
a first member having an engagement surface and attaching to one of the first and the second seat members; and a second member linearly reciprocatable relative to the first member and attaching to the other of the first and second seat members, the second member including;
a resilient friction member disposed in frictional contact with the engagement surface wherein the damper provides damping between the first and second seat members.
- 3. A tiltable seat assembly comprising:
a) a first seat member, b) a second seat member movably mounted on the first seat member, c) a spring biasing the second seat member relative to the first seat member, and d) a damper interconnected between the seat members, the damper further comprising;
a first member having a recess with an engagement surface, the first member attaching to one of the first seat member and the second seat member; and a member assembly attaching to the other of the first seat member and the second seat member, the member assembly including;
a resilient friction member disposed in the recess in frictional contact with the inner surface wherein the damper provides damping between the first seat member and the second seat member.
- 4. A tiltable seatback assembly, comprising:
a) a first seat member, b) a seatback member pivotally mounted to the first seat member, c) a coil spring biasing the seatback member to a forward position, and d) a damper interconnected between the first seat member and the seatback member, the damper further comprising;
an outer member including a recess having an inner cylindrical surface, the outer member attaching to one of the first seat and seatback members; and an inner member assembly attaching to the other of the first seat or seatback members, the assembly including;
a shaft, and a resilient friction member including at least one protrusion mounted on the shaft and disposed in the recess in frictional contact with the inner cylindrical surface wherein the damper provides frictional damping between the first seat and seatback members.
- 5. The tiltable seat assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein the damper further comprises:
a) a tubular outer member including a recess having an inner surface of substantially constant diameter and a first attachment hole radially intersecting the recess; and b) an inner member assembly, including;
a shaft having a second attachment hole formed therein, and a resilient friction member mounted to the shaft, the resilient friction member disposed in the recess in frictional contact with the inner surface.
- 6. The tiltable seat assembly as claimed in claim 5 wherein the tubula member comprises a first open end and a second open end, said inner surface extending between the first and second member ends.
- 7. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the shaft includes a first dimension portion with a smaller dimension portion extending therefrom.
- 8. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 7 wherein the first dimension portion is integral with the smaller dimension portion.
- 9. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 7 wherein the smaller dimension portion comprises a rivet.
- 10. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 7 wherein the smaller dimension portion comprises a taper formed on an end thereof.
- 11. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 7 wherein the smaller dimension portion comprises a separate member that engages a hole in the first dimension portion.
- 12. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the resilient friction member is bonded to the shaft.
- 13. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 12 wherein the resilient friction member is bonded to a second portion of the shaft having a smaller dimension than a first portion thereof.
- 14. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the shaft further comprises a deformable portion that is deformed during an assembly operation to secure the resilient friction member onto the shaft.
- 15. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the shaft comprises a second portion including a projection which snaps into a first portion to fixedly mount the resilient friction member.
- 16. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the shaft comprises a taper over which the resilient friction member is received.
- 17. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the shaft comprises a first dimension portion and a smaller dimension portion extending therefrom forming a first step at an interface between the portions, a taper formed on the smaller dimension portion and terminating at a second step wherein during assembly the resilient friction member is received over the taper and snaps onto place between the steps.
- 18. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the resilient friction member comprises at least one protrusion.
- 19. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 18 wherein the at least one protrusion comprises a plurality of ribs formed on an outer surface of the resilient friction member.
- 20. The tiltable seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the resilient friction member comprises one-piece construction.
