Claims
- 1. A method of imparting resistance to PRRS disease in pigs that have been exposed to PRRS disease, comprising administering a PRRS disease resistance imparting effective amount of seaweed supplement to pigs that have been exposed to PRRS disease.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the seaweed supplement is from Ascophyllum nodosum.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the pigs are baby pigs entering or in the nursery phase.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein the administering comprises feeding the pigs seaweed supplement during the entire nursery phase.
- 5. The method of claim 1 where the administering is carried out by directly feeding seaweed supplement in admixture with diet.
- 6. A method of mitigating the stress of weaning in lactating mares during and after weaning when lactating mares are physically separated from their foals, comprising prior to weaning administering to the lactating mares a weaning stress mitigating effective amount of seaweed supplement.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein the seaweed supplement is from Ascophyllum nodosum.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein the administering of the seaweed supplement is started at least 10 days prior to weaning and is continued until weaning.
- 9. The method of claim 6 where the administering is carried out by directly feeding seaweed supplement in admixture with diet.
- 10. The method of claim 6 where the administering is carried out by the lactating mares grazing on seaweed supplement treated pastures.
