Abstract
A sectional mattress assembly that is more easily flipped includes a plurality of mattress sections and a plurality of fasteners. Each mattress section has opposed faces and a sidewall and is substantially rectangular. Each fastener is attached to a respective sidewall, with the fasteners being selectively mutually engageable. The plurality of mattress sections is selectively and fixedly positionable in an assembled configuration, wherein the plurality of mattress sections comprises a complete mattress. Each mattress section is configured to be selectively rotated about a horizontal axis to effectively flip the complete mattress. Flipping the mattress sections individually is much easier relative to flipping a prior art, single section, mattress. Additionally, the mattress sections can be selectively repositioned in the complete mattress to optimize comfort and to increase an effective lifetime of the sectional mattress assembly.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
(1) Field of the Invention

The disclosure relates to mattresses and more particularly pertains to a new mattress that is more easily flipped. The present invention discloses a mattress comprised of a plurality of mattress sections, which can be selectively mutually attached to create a complete mattress.

(2) Description of Related Art including information disclosed under 37 CFR 1.97 and 1.98.

The prior art relates to mattresses, which may comprise pocketed mattress pads into which inserts are placeable, stackable foam elements, and sectional mattresses that are assembled using mortice and tenon joints. Related prior art comprising pillowtop mattress pads. What is lacking in the prior art is a mattress comprised of a plurality of mattress sections, which can be selectively mutually attached to create a complete mattress. When detached, the mattress sections can be selectively rotated about their horizontal axes to effectively flip the complete mattress. Also lacking in the prior art is use of elements of hook and loop connectors in attachment of mattress sections.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a plurality of mattress sections and a plurality of fasteners.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 9 thereof, a new mattress embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 9, the sectional mattress assembly 10 generally comprises a plurality of mattress sections 12 and a plurality of fasteners 14. Each mattress section 12 has opposed faces 16 and a sidewall 18, is substantially rectangular, and comprises a fabric case 20 in which a resilient material 22 is positioned. The mattress section 12 thus is reversibly compressible. The resilient material 22 comprises one or more of cotton, foam rubber, coiled springs, or the like. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 7, piping 24 is attached to at least one side 26 of a perimeter 28 of each opposed face 16 of each mattress section 12. The piping 24 gives the sectional mattress assembly 10 a similar look and feel to prior art mattresses. The piping 24 may extend circumferentially around the perimeter 28.

The plurality of mattress sections 12 may comprise three mattress sections 12, as shown in FIGS. 1-4 and 6, six mattress sections 12, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, or other number of mattress sections 12, such as four mattress sections 12, five mattress sections 12, and seven or more mattress sections 12.

Each fastener 14 is attached to a respective sidewall 18, with the fasteners 14 being selectively mutually engageable. The plurality of fasteners 14 may comprise elements of hook and loop connectors 30, or other fastening means, such as, but not limited to, button closures, zippers, and the like. Using the fasteners 14, the plurality of mattress sections 12 is selectively and fixedly positionable in an assembled configuration, wherein the plurality of mattress sections 12 comprises a complete mattress 32, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 6.

Each mattress section 12 is configured to be selectively rotated about a horizontal axis 34 to effectively flip the complete mattress 32. Flipping the mattress sections 12 individually is much easier relative to flipping a prior art, single section, mattress. Additionally, the mattress sections 12 can be selectively repositioned in the complete mattress 32 to optimize comfort and to increase an effective lifetime of the sectional mattress assembly 10.

The sectional mattress assembly 10 also may comprise a fabric shell 36 and a mattress topper 38. The fabric shell 36 defines an interior space 40 and has a top 42, which is open. The interior space 40 is complementary to the plurality of mattress sections 12 so that the plurality of mattress sections 12 is selectively insertable into the fabric shell 36. The mattress topper 38 is attached to, or is selectively attachable to, the fabric shell 36 so that the mattress topper 38 is positioned to selectively close the top 42. The mattress topper 38 may be pillow-top type, memory foam type, latex type, or electric blanket type.

A closure 44 is attached to the mattress topper 38 and is selectively attachable to the fabric shell 36 to couple the mattress topper 38 to the fabric shell 36. The closure 44 may comprise a zipper 46, or other closing means, such as, but not limited to, buttons closures, elastic banding, and the like.

In use, the sectional mattress assembly 10 enables a method 48 of effectively flipping a complete mattress 32. A first step 50 of the method 48 is providing a sectional mattress assembly 10 according to the specification above. A second step 52 of the method 48 is detaching the fasteners 14. A third step 54 of the method 48 is rotating each mattress section 12 about a respective horizontal axis 34. A fourth step 56 of the method 48 is reattaching the fasteners 14.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
