Claims
- 1. Apparatus enabling closing a secure door and selectively opening the door, comprising:
- an elongated bolt movably mounted relative to the door, the bolt movable between extended and retracted positions;
- a first idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent to a first end of the bolt;
- a second idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent a second end of the bolt;
- a drive cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door in intermediate relation between the first and second idler cams;
- a lock operatively engagable with the drive cam, wherein the drive cam is movable when the lock is in an unlocked condition, and wherein the drive cam is held stationary by operative engagement with the lock when the lock is in a locked condition;
- a first L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the first idler cam;
- a second L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the second idler cam;
- a first S-link operatively extending between the first idler cam and the bolt;
- a second S-link operatively extending between the second idler cam and the bolt; and
- wherein rotational movement of the drive cam between a first position and a second position moves the bolt between the extended position and the retracted position, respectively, at least one of the idler cams being in abutting engagement with the bolt when the bolt is in the extended position to prevent movement of the bolt to the retracted position absent rotational movement of the at least one idler cam.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein in the first position of the drive cam the first and second S-links are both in over center positions relative to the first and second idler cams, respectively.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the first and second idler cams both rotate in a first rotational direction as the bolt moves from the extended position to the retracted position, and wherein rotation of the idler cams in an opposed rotational direction beyond the over center positions is prevented by engagement of the at least one of the idler cams and the bolt.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein in the extended position of the bolt, when at least one of the S-links or L-links is operatively disconnected, the bolt is prevented from moving to the retracted position by engagement of the bolt with at least one of the idler cams.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 4 wherein in the extended position of the bolt and in the first position of the drive cam, when at least one of the Slinks or L-links is operatively disconnected the bolt is prevented from moving to the retracted position by engagement with the drive cam.
- 6. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the first and second idler cams are interchangeable.
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein each idler cam in cross section is bounded by a pair of opposed convergent side surfaces, the convergent side surfaces extending to a front surface, wherein the side surfaces are closer to one another with increasing proximity to the front surface, and wherein the front surface is the closest of the front and side surfaces to the bolt when the bolt is in the extended position.
- 8. The apparatus according to claim 7 wherein the front surfaces of each of the first and second idler cams is in abutting relation with the bolt when the bolt is in the extended position.
- 9. Apparatus enabling closing a secure door and selectively opening the door, comprising:
- an elongated bolt movably mounted relative to the door, the bolt movable between extended and retracted positions, wherein the bolt is held in movably supported connection with the door by a center guide, and wherein the center guide is generally "H" shaped in cross section;
- a first idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent to a first end of the bolt;
- a second idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent a second end of the bolt;
- a drive cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door in intermediate relation between the first and second idler cams;
- a lock operatively engagable with the drive cam, wherein the drive cam is movable when the lock is in an unlocked condition, and wherein the drive cam is held stationary by operative engagement with the lock when the lock is in a locked condition;
- a first L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the first idler cam;
- a second L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the second idler cam;
- a first S-link operatively extending between the first idler cam and the bolt;
- a second S-link operatively extending between the second idler cam and the bolt; and
- wherein rotational movement of the drive cam between a first position and a second position moves the bolt between the extended position and the retracted position, respectively.
- 10. The apparatus according to claim 9 wherein the bolt includes a slot extending from an outer surface bounding the bolt, and wherein the center guide extends in the slot.
- 11. The apparatus according to claim 9 wherein the door is in supporting connection with a first bolt guide, wherein the first end of the bolt is movable in the first bolt guide, and wherein the first bolt guide extends in surrounding relation with the first end of the bolt, and wherein the door is further in supporting connection with a second bolt guide, wherein the second end of the bolt is movable in the second bolt guide, and wherein the second bolt guide extends in surrounding relation with the second end of the bolt.
- 12. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the bolt includes a guard projection in supporting connection therewith, and wherein in the extended position of the bolt and in the first position of the drive cam, the drive cam extends between the door and the guard projection.
- 13. Apparatus enabling closing a secure door and selectively opening the door, comprising:
- an elongated bolt movably mounted relative to the door, the bolt movable between extended and retracted positions;
- a first idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent to a first end of the bolt;
- a second idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent a second end of the bolt;
- a drive cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door in intermediate relation between the first and second idler cams;
- a lock operatively engagable with the drive cam, wherein the drive cam is movable when the lock is in an unlocked condition, and wherein the drive cam is held stationary by operative engagement with the lock when the lock is in a locked condition;
- a first L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the first idler cam;
- a second L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the second idler cam;
- a first S-link operatively extending between the first idler cam and the bolt;
- a second S-link operatively extending between the second idler cam and the bolt; and
- wherein rotational movement of the drive cam between a first position and a second position moves the bolt between the extended position and the retracted position, respectively, and wherein when the bolt is in the extended position, and a plurality of the S-links or L-links are operatively disconnected, the bolt is prevented from moving to the retracted position by operative engagement with at least one of the idler cams or the drive cam.
- 14. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein in the extended position of the bolt, the bolt is in abutting engagement with both of the first and second idler cams, and wherein such abutting engagement prevents movement of the bolt to the retracted position absent rotational movement of both of the idler cams.
- 15. The apparatus according to claim 1 and further comprising an enclosure, and wherein the door is movably mounted on the enclosure, and wherein the enclosure includes an opening to an interior area of the enclosure, and wherein when the bolt is in the retracted position the door is enabled to be moved from a closing position wherein the door closes the opening, to an open position wherein the door is disposed from the opening, and wherein in the closing position of the door when the bolt is moved to the extended position the bolt is operatively engaged with the enclosure and the door is held in the closing position.
- 16. The apparatus according to claim 15 wherein the enclosure includes a wall adjacent to the opening, and wherein the wall includes an aperture therein, and further comprising a projection in supporting connection with the door, and wherein in the closing position of the door the projection extends in the aperture.
- 17. The apparatus according to claim 16 wherein the enclosure includes a further wall on an opposed side of the opening from the first wall, and wherein the further wall includes a further aperture therein, and wherein when the bolt is extended in the closing position of the door, the bolt extends in the further aperture.
- 18. The apparatus according to claim 17 wherein in the closing position of the door, the door extends in the opening, and wherein the enclosure includes a striker plate, wherein the striker plate engages the door in the closed position to limit inward travel of the door to a position wherein the bolt is in alignment with the further aperture.
- 19. The apparatus according to claim 18 wherein the bolt includes two spaced projections thereon, and wherein the further wall includes two spaced further apertures, wherein each bolt projection extends in a corresponding further aperture in the extended position of the bolt when the door is in the closing position, and further comprising a selectively movable member extending transversely between the two spaced projections, wherein the movable member engages both the striker plate and the door in the closing position of the door, wherein adjustment of the movable member is operative to change a location wherein further movement of the door towards the interior area of the enclosure is prevented.
- 20. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the drive cam includes a cut out, and wherein in the locked condition of the lock, a member of the lock extends in the cut out, wherein the drive cam is held generally immovable.
- 21. Apparatus enabling closing a secure door and selectively opening the door, comprising:
- an elongated bolt movably mounted relative to the door, the bolt movable between extended and retracted positions;
- a first idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent to a first end of the bolt;
- a second idler cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door adjacent a second end of the bolt;
- a drive cam rotatably mounted in supporting connection with the door in intermediate relation between the first and second idler cams;
- a lock operatively engagable with the drive cam, wherein the drive cam is movable when the lock is in an unlocked condition, and wherein the drive cam is held stationary by operative engagement with the lock when the lock is in a locked condition;
- a first L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the first idler cam;
- a second L-link operatively extending between the drive cam and the second idler cam;
- a first S-link operatively extending between the first idler cam and the bolt;
- a second S-link operatively extending between the second idler cam and the bolt; and
- wherein rotational movement of the drive cam between a first position and a second position moves the bolt between the extended position and the retracted position, respectively, at least one of the idler cams being in sufficiently close proximity to the bolt when the bolt is in the extended position to prevent movement of the bolt to the retracted position absent rotational movement of the at least one idler cam.
