Claims
- 1. Apparatus for recovering an audio message from a selected one of a plurality of blocks of composite digital audio data recorded on a record medium as at least one video encoded digital audio data block and at least one audio encoded digital audio data block, each said data block comprising a series of digitally encoded audio message units, each said audio message unit comprising a message portion, said apparatus comprising:
- player means for recovering said blocks of composite digital data from said record medium, and including means capable of outputting recovered video encoded digital audio data blocks, means capable of outputting recovered audio encoded digital audio data blocks, and means for outputting command data;
- selector means coupled to said player means and receiving any recovered video encoded data blocks and any recovered audio encoded data blocks of composite digital audio data, and including data select means responsive to said command data for selecting and outputting one of said recovered video and audio encoded data blocks of composite digital audio data;
- addressable data storage means;
- write means for receiving said selected block of composite digital audio data from said data select means, and for writing said selected block of composite digital audio data into predetermined data storage locations in said addressable storage means; and
- data readout means responsive to said command data for reading out of said addressable storage means the message portion of a selected audio message unit.
- 2. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said video encoded digital audio data block is recorded on said disc in two consecutive video frames.
- 3. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said audio encoded digital audio data block on said disc is in the form of digitized information according to an adaptive delta modulation process.
- 4. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said data select means includes:
- a video encoded digital audio data recovery device capable of receiving and decoding said video encoded data blocks to produce corresponding digital audio data;
- an audio encoded digital audio data recovery device capable of receiving and decoding said audio encoded data blocks to produce corresponding digital audio data;
- means for developing a video data clock from the recovered and decoded video encoded digital audio data from said video encoded digital audio data recovery device; and
- means for developing an audio data clock from the recovered and decoded audio encoded digital audio data from said audio encoded digital audio data recovery device; and
- means for applying one of said video data clock and audio data clock to said addressable storage means for effecting synchronous operation of said addressable storage means, write means, and select switch means.
- 5. The apparatus as claimed in claim 4, wherein said select switch means includes:
- means for decoding said command data to produce a clock select signal; and
- multiplexer means for receiving said developed video data clock and said developed audio data clock and selecting between them dependent upon the status of said clock select signal.
- 6. Apparatus for recovering a message portion of audio data from a block of composite digital audio data recorded on a record medium as a sequential series of digitally encoded audio message units, each said audio message unit comprising an audio message portion, said composite digital audio data being recorded on said record medium along with associated video display information, said block of composite digital audio data being selectively recorded on said record medium as one of a block of video encoded digital audio data and a block of audio encoded digital audio data, said apparatus comprising:
- player means including means recovering said block of composite digital audio data from said record medium, means for outputting said recovered block of composite digital audio data, and means for outputting a message select command;
- addressable storage means for storing recovered digital audio data at selectable storage address locations therein;
- select switch means, including a video encoded digital audio data recovery device and an audio encoded digital audio data recovery device, connected between said player means and said write means for selecting one of said blocks of video encoded data and audio encoded data for loading into said addressable storage means;
- write means, coupled between said player means and said addressable storage means, for loading said recovered block of composite digital audio data into said addressable stcrage means at predetermined sequentially addressed storage locations; and
- data readout means for reading out of said addressable storage means the audio message portion of a selected audio message unit.
- 7. A method for recovering an audio message from a selected one of a plurality of blocks of composite digital audio data recorded on a record medium as at least one video encoded digital audio data block and at least one audio encoded digital audio data block, each said data block comprising a series of digitally encoded audio message units, each audio message unit comprising a message portion, said method comprising the steps of:
- recovering said blocks of composite digital audio data from said record medium and selectively producing recovered video encoded digital audio data blocks, recovered audio encoded digital audio data blocks, and command data;
- selecting one of said recovered video and audio encoded data blocks of composite digital audio data responsive to said command data;
- writing said selected block of composite digital audio data into predetermined data storage locations in an addressable storage means; and
- reading out of the addressable storage means the message portion of a selected audio message unit.
- 8. A method for recovering a message portion of audio data from a block of composite digital audio data recorded on a record medium as a sequential series of digitally encoded audio message units, each said audio message unit comprising an audio message portion, said composite digital audio data being recorded on said record medium along with associated video display information, said block of composite digital audio data being selectively recorded on said record medium as one of a block of video encoded digital audio data and a block of audio encoded digital audio data, said method comprising the steps of:
- recovering said block of composite digital audio data from said record medium;
- identifying whether said recovered block of composite digital audio data is video encoded digital audio data or audio encoded digital audio data;
- selecting the one of said video encoded digital audio data and audio encoded digital audio data identified in said identifying step;
- storing said selected recovered block of composite digital audio data into said addressable storage means at predetermined sequentially addressed storage locations; and
- reading out of said addressable storage means the message portion of a selected audio message unit.
