Claims
- 1. A catalyst suitable for hydrodesulfurizing naphtha feed streams without excessive olefin saturation, which catalyst is comprised of:
- (a) an inorganic refractory support material; and
- (b) about 1 to 10 wt. % MoO.sub.3 ; and
- (c) about 0.1 to 5 wt. % CoO; and
- (d) a Co/Mo atomic ratio of about 0.1 to 1.0; and
- (e) a median pore diameter of about 75 .ANG. to 175 .ANG.; and
- (f) a MoO.sub.3 surface concentration in g MoO.sub.3 /m.sup.2 of about 0.5.times.10.sup.-4 to 3.times.10.sup.-4, and
- (g) an average particle size diameter of less than about 2.0 mm and
- (h) a metal sulfide edge plane area of from about 761 to 2800 .mu.mol oxygen/g MoO.sub.3 as measured by oxygen chemisorption.
- 2. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein the amount of MoO.sub.3 is from about 2 to 8 wt. % and the amount of CoO is from about 0.5 to 4 wt. % and the inorganic support material is selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, and silica-alumina.
- 3. The catalyst of claim 2 where the Co/Mo atomic ratio is from about 0.20 to about 0.80.
- 4. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein the MoO.sub.3 surface concentration is from about 0.75.times.10.sup.-4 to about 2.5.times.10.sup.-4.
- 5. A catalyst suitable for hydrodesulfurizing a naphtha feedstreams without excessive olefins saturation, which catalyst is comprised of:
- (a) an inorganic refractory support material; and
- (b) about 2 to 8 wt. % MoO.sub.3 ; and
- (c) about 0.5 to 4 wt. % CoO; and
- (d) a Co/Mo atomic ratio of about 0.20 to 0.80; and
- (e) a median pore diameter of about 75 .ANG. to 1 75 .ANG.; and
- (f) a MoO.sub.3 surface concentration in g MoO.sub.3 /m.sup.2 of about 0.5.times.10.sup.-4 to 3.times.10.sup.-4 ; and
- (g) an average particle size diameter of less than about 1.6 mm; and
- (h) a metal sulfide edge plane area of from about 800 to 2800 .mu.mol oxygen/g MoO.sub.3 as measured by oxygen chemisorption.
- 6. The catalyst of claim 5 wherein the amount of MoO.sub.3 is from about 4 to 6 wt. %, and the amount of CoO is from about 1 to 3 wt. %, and the inorganic support material is selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, and silica-alumina.
- 7. The catalyst of claim 6 where the Co/Mo atomic ratio is from about 0.25 to about 0.72.
- 8. The catalyst of claim 7 wherein the median pore diameter is from about 80 .ANG. to about 150 .ANG..
- 9. The catalyst of claim 8 wherein the MoO.sub.3 surface concentration is from about 1.times.10.sup.-4 to about 2.times.10.sup.-4 g MoO.sub.3 /m.sup.2.
- 10. The catalyst of claim 5 wherein the catalyst has a metal sulfide edge plane area of about 1000 to 2200 .mu.mol oxygen/g MoO.sub.3 as measured by oxygen chemisorption.
