Abstract
Herein is described an invention comprising a customized bow tie of 2 basic parts: a bow strip and a neck band. The bow strip may be pre-tied or otherwise, and is held in shape by a tubular bow loop, located in the center of the tied bow strip. The neck band portion has an unrestricted path through the bow strip. The neck band is not adjustable. It is customized to the size of wearer and does not employ hook and pile fabric fasteners. The absences of any fasteners, means no need to employ dexterity needed to adjust fasteners and hooks and also eliminates bulk in shirt collar.
Description
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

I have been a regular wearer of bow ties for many years and have personally noted each of the above disadvantages. I am well aware of the effective use of pile type fabric fasteners for apparel such as belt, shoes and jackets. These are often called by the trademark “VELCRO” fasteners.

It occurred to me that some of the problems of bow tie construction might be solved if pile type fasteners were somehow combined with a bow tie. Unfortunately, pile fasteners themselves often unsightly, provide bulges themselves and often are not reliable. They provide a degree of adjustability but in the process usually have a length of unwanted overhang.

In occurred to me that a pile fastener could be compatible with a bow tie if it provided adjustability with concealment under the bow tie itself without much bulge showing and with some provision for concealment of any overhang length of the pile fastener. However, the challenge of poor dexterity and motor skills still poses a challenge for bow ties with fabric fasteners and pile type fasteners.

I have determined that I could achieve the simple functionality while maintaining the attractive yet desired appearance of the self-tie by removing all fabric fasteners and pile type fasteners to make self-tie bow ties more readily accessible to those with poor dexterity and motor skills while totally eliminating the usual bulges around the collar caused by fabric fasteners and pile type fabric fasteners usually associated with the conventional bow tie.

Since fabric fasteners and pile type fabric fasteners and tie materials are washable and hold their shape without ironing, I can provide an easily cleaned bow tie.

Briefly, my invention involves a bow tie of two basic parts, the bow strip and the neck band. The neck band is a length of neck tie fabric of ½-¾″ in width and 12″ to 14″ in length for small necks, 14″ to 16″ in length for medium necks and 16″ to 18″ in length for larger necks. Neck band does not include any fabric hooks or fasteners or pile type fatteners. The bow strip is double thickness fabric, size varies depending on neck tie fabric size and width. Bow strip is attached to both ends of neck band.

According to my invention, the inclusion of fabric fasteners, hooks and pile type fasteners or combination of said fasteners are void of this invention, eliminating the overhang portion which is present in all adjustable self-tie, bow ties. This invention eliminates the banes of wearer's existence of poor dexterity and motor skills while eliminating the bulk in shirt collar. Re-using existing neck tie fabric reduces carbon footprint and the energy needed involved in producing new fabric.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

This invention may be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and by reference to the drawing in which:

FIG. 1 Convectional neck tie.

FIG. 2 Neck tie, seam thread removed.

FIG. 3 Neck tie fabric un-seamed and flattened.

FIG. 4 Neck band and bow-shape cut from neck tie fabric.

FIG. 5 Neck band, double layered.

FIG. 6 Bow-shape shape, double sided.

FIG. 7 Neck band and bow-shape sewn.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring to FIG. 1 through FIG. 4, a neck band joined fabric material 6a & 6b employing my invention may be seen. The neck band basically comprises of two identical fabric portions 6a & 6b derived from FIG. 4. The bow portion 4a, 4b & 5a, 5b comprises of four identical shapes sewn together then joined to 6a & 6b fabric material to form a bow tie. The bow portion may be typically 2″ in width and 10″ to 12″ in length. Silk for formal attire is customary, wovens, cotton and satin are common other fabrics used for the bow tie.

The neck band portion FIG. 5 is joined to FIG. 6 bow-shape 4a, 4b & 5a, 5b. It has a length of the neck tie fabric material which may vary from 12″ to 18″ in length. At both 7 ends, 6a & 6b of the neck band portions and 4a, 4b & 5a, 5b bow-shape are attached.

FIG. 7 shows the complete assembled bow tie employing neck band and bow-shape.

FIGS. 8 & 9 shows the self-tie bow tie FIG. 7 tied. Front and back views.

The above-described embodiments of the present invention are merely descriptive of its principles and are not to be considered limiting. The scope of the present invention instead shall be determined from the scope of the following claims including their equivalents.
