Claims
- 1. A cabinet comprising:
a top panel, bottom panel, two side panels, and a back panel, each of said panels having an inner and an outer surface; wherein each of said top, side, and bottom panels include a groove; and edging material having a portion engaged with the groove of each of said top, side and bottom panels; wherein engagement of said panels by said edging material forms an overhang over the outer surface of one or more of said panels and is flush with the inner surface of said panels.
- 2. The cabinet of claim 1, wherein said edge material is generally u-shaped.
- 3. The cabinet of claim 1, wherein said overhang extends between about 0.125 inch and about 0.5 inch beyond said panels.
- 4. The cabinet of claim 1 further comprising one or more middle shelves.
- 5. The cabinet of claim 4, wherein said middle shelves include a grooved side and edging secured thereto.
- 6. The cabinet of claim 1 further comprising cabinet hardware mounted flush against the inner surface of said side panels.
- 7. The cabinet of claim 1 further comprising one or more doors or drawers.
- 8. A method for assembling a cabinet comprising the steps of:
cutting cabinet panels from a single piece of material; grooving at least one side of each of said cabinet panels that will have front exposure once the cabinet is assembled; securing edging to the grooved side of said panels; and assembling said panels to form a cabinet.
- 9. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of drilling a set of grooves on each of said panels.
- 10. The method of claim 9 further comprising the step of inserting biscuit joints, dowel rods, or a spline in said grooves, wherein said biscuit joints, dowel rods or spline is used to connect said cabinet panels.
- 11. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of attaching cabinet hardware directly to an interior wall of at least one of said side panels.
- 12. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of attaching one or more middle shelves to said cabinet.
- 13. The method of claim 8, wherein the edging is secured to the grooved side of said panels such as to create an overhang extending beyond the outer surface of said panels and a flush surface between the inner surface of said panels and the edging.
- 14. A cabinet making system, comprising:
storage of at least one uncut standard dimensioned cabinet panel material; storage of strips of edging; a machine capable of forming said cabinet panel material into cabinet panels; a machine capable of grooving at least one side of said cabinet panels; a means for applying said strips of edging to said grooved sides of said cabinet panels; a means for drilling assembly grooves into said standard cabinet panels; and a means for assembling said standard cabinet panels into a cabinet.
- 15. A cabinet comprising:
a set of cabinet panels connected by biscuit joints, dowel rods, or a spline, wherein said set of cabinet panels form the structure of the cabinet, wherein said cabinet panels include an inner and outer surface; and edging secured to one or more of said set of panels, said edging extending beyond an outer surface of said one or more of said set of panels but not beyond an inner surface of said one or more of said set of panels.
- 16. The cabinet of claim 15 wherein said edging has a recess formed therein for engaging a recess formed along an edge of said one or more of said set of cabinet panels.
- 17. A cabinet comprising:
a set of cabinet panels that form the structure of a cabinet; and edging secured to a side of one or more of said panels, wherein the edging extends beyond the structure of the cabinet, wherein said cabinet structure has slack such as to allow the structure of the cabinet to be manipulated to conform to the surface on which the cabinet is to be mounted.
- 18. The cabinet of claim 17 wherein the edging forms a front face of the cabinet structure, wherein said front face is flush with the interior surfaces of said cabinet panels.
- 19. The cabinet of claim 17 further comprising cabinet hardware mounted flush against one or more inner surface of said set of cabinet panels.
- 20. The cabinet of claim 17 wherein said edging is secured to said side of one or more of said side panels by a set of corresponding grooves, one groove in said edging and one groove in said side of said one or more of said side panels.
