Claims
- 1. A semiconductor optical device comprising:
- a substrate;
- a first optical waveguide disposed on the substrate;
- a second optical waveguide disposed on the substrate, wherein the first and second optical waveguides intersect to form an X shape, wherein the first optical waveguide includes a first light propagation direction changing portion disposed apart from the intersection of the X shape and the second optical waveguide includes a second light propagation direction changing portion disposed apart from the intersection of the X shape; and
- a bypass optical waveguide disposed on the substrate, connecting the first optical waveguide at a part adjacent to the first light propagation direction changing portion and the second optical waveguide at a part adjacent to the second light propagation direction changing portion, wherein the bypass optical waveguide includes an optical amplification portion functioning as a light absorbing portion when not excited.
- 2. A semiconductor optical device according to claim 1, wherein the operating timing of the first and second light propagation direction changing portions and the operating timing of the optical amplification portion are synchronized with each other.
- 3. A semiconductor optical device according to claim 1, further comprising a common electrode activating the first and second light propagation direction changing portions and the optical amplification portion.
- 4. A semiconductor optical device according to claim 1, wherein the optical amplification portion is a semiconductor laser.
