- 19. The fastener component of claim 3, said cover comprising polyethylene.
- 20. The fastener component of claim 1, said cover being sufficiently flexible, sized and continuous such that if said fastener component is placed in a trench having a bottom face and side walls, of a mold, and said fastener component is forced against at least one of said bottom face and said side walls, and molding material is introduced into said mold, said cover forms at least one gasket seal with said mold and prevents any molding material from flowing past said cover into said interior region of fastening elements.
- 21. A separable fastener component for use with a complementary separable fastener component, said separable fastener component comprising:
- a. a base member, having a nominal fastening face and a non-fastening face;
- b. carried on said fastening face, a pattern of fastening elements, said fastening elements selected from the group consisting of hook-type and loop-type elements, said pattern comprising:
- i. an interior region of fastening elements, free of any cover;
- ii. substantially surrounding said interior region, a perimeter region; and
- c. partially covering each of said fastening elements of said perimeter region, a cover that intimately surrounds and substantially fills any space around each of said covered fastening elements such that tip surfaces of said engaging elements are slightly exposed, said cover being sufficiently flexible, sized and continuous and said exposed portion of said fastening element tips being sufficiently small such that if said fastener component is placed in a trench having a bottom face and side walls, of a mold, and said fastener component is forced against at least one of said bottom face and said side walls, and molding material is introduced into said mold, said cover forms a gasket seal with said mold and prevents any molding material from flowing past said cover into said interior region of fastening elements.
