Claims
- 1. In a method for chromatographically separating an optical isomer from a racemic mixture thereof, wherein the mixture is contacted with a separation agent under chromatographic separation conditions, the improvement which comprises: employing amylose triacetate as the separation agent.
- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1, in which said amylose triacetate is formed by reacting amylose with acetic acid.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said amylose triacetate is in the form of a powder.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the particle size of said powder is from 1 to 300 .mu.m.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 1, in which said mixture is conducted through a chromatographic column or layer to effect separation and resolution of the components of said mixture.
- 6. A method for chromatographically separating an optical isomer from a racemic mixture thereof which comprises contacting said mixture, under liquid chromatographic separation conditions, with a chromatographic separation material consisting essentially of inorganic carrier particles having a particle size of from 1 .mu.m to 10 mm and coated with from 1 to 100% by weight of resolving agent, based on the weight of said carrier particles, said resolving agent consisting essentially of amylose triacetate.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 6 in which said inorganic carrier is porous and has an average pore diameter of from 10 .ANG. to 100 .mu.m.
- 8. A method as claimed in claim 6 in which said inorganic carrier is selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, magnesia, titanium oxide, glass and kaolin.
- 9. A method as claimed in claim 6 in which said inorganic carrier particles are silica beads which have been surface treated with an organosilane compound to improve their affinity for the resolving agent.
