Claims
- 1. A printing apparatus for performing a print heat retroactive operation, comprising:
- paper feed means for feeding printing paper in forward and reverse paper feed directions;
- a print head shiftable orthogonally to the paper feed directions for conducting printing on the paper and shiftable to a preceding line and a position in the preceding line during a retroactive operation of said print head;
- memory means for storing a sequence of printing data for printed characters over a plurality of print lines on the printing paper;
- memory means for storing an address pointer for pointing to an address in said memory means at which one of the sequence of printing data is stored;
- indication means for indicating a retroactive operation of said print head for editing in a preceding one of the plurality of print lines; and
- control means, upon a shifting of said print head from the current print line to a preceding one of the plurality of print lines during the retroactive operation of said print head, in response to the indication by the indication means, said control means controlling said print head and/or the address pointer in accordance with at least part of the stored printing data in said memory means so that the position in the preceding line, to which said print head is shifted from the current print line is the position at which the sequence of printing data ends in accordance with the address pointed to by the address pointer.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said indication means includes a key, wherein said storing means addresses said memory means while said key is being operated, and wherein said print head is laterally shifted according to the printing data stored at the addresses in said memory means addressed by said storing means.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 1 further comprising a backup power source for maintaining the stored recording information in said memory means.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said recording unit comprises means for mounting a daisy wheel thereon, wherein the daisy wheel has a plurality of printing types and wherein said recording unit includes means for selecting one printing type according to the recording information input by said input means and hammer means for striking the selected printing type through an ink ribbon to perform recording on the recording surface.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said recording surface advancing means includes carriage drive means and paper feed means.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the recording information includes character information to be recorded, wherein said input means is arranged to input character pitch information and wherein said memory means stores the character pitch information in said memory means in association with the corresponding character information.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said memory means stores a plurality of line change information.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said input means is arranged to input character pitch information and wherein said memory means stores the character pitch information in said memory means.
- 9. A printing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said indication means indicates the number of lines from the current line the preceding line which the print head faces is located.
- 10. A printing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said memory means stores the sequence of characters over a plurality of lines on the printing paper, wherein the number of characters in the sequence is at least 1.
- 11. A printing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the distance information in the paper feed direction is a vertical distance over which paper feeding occurs.
- 12. A printing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the distance information in the head shift direction is a lateral distance over which the print head shift occurs.
- 13. Printing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein after positioning the print head on the preceding print line, said control means laterally shifts said print head in accordance with the printing data of the preceding print line read from said memory means.
- 14. A printing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said memory means for storing a sequence of printing data is a line buffer capable of storing a predetermined number of characters.
- 15. A printing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said control means performs its operation in accordance with a program.
- 16. A printing apparatus according to claim 1 further comprising means for storing registered printing data.
- 17. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a first drive unit for laterally shifting said print head and a second drive unit for longitudinally shifting the printing paper.
- 18. An apparatus according to claim 17, wherein said second drive unit comprises means for automatically shifting said carriage in the longitudinal direction for a plurality of printed lines.
- 19. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said indicating means generates a first instruction instructing said print head to retrocede within the current line where said print head resides and a second instruction instructing said print head to retrocede from the current line to the preceding line.
- 20. An apparatus according to claim 19, wherein the second instruction comprises means for instructing automatic reverse paper feed over a plurality of printed lines.
- 21. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein a recording medium having the recording surface thereon comprises means for being loaded onto the apparatus, said apparatus further comprising means for deriving the lateral shift of said carriage as distance information from the left end of the recording medium loaded on the apparatus.
- 22. An apparatus according to claim 21, wherein said memory means stores the distance information derived by said deriving means at a location corresponding to the recording information to be stored in said memory means.
- 23. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising input means for inputting recording information including character information to be recorded.
- 24. An apparatus according to claim 23, wherein said input means comprising means for inputting recording control information indicative of the separation of said character information.
- 25. An apparatus according to claim 24, wherein said recording control information is a line change code.
- 26. An apparatus according to claim 25, wherein said memory means stores head recording information for a next line at the next location after the location where said line change code is stored.
- 27. An apparatus according to claim 23, wherein said input means is arranged to input line pitch information, and wherein said memory means stores the input line pitch information at a location corresponding to the character information to be recorded.
- 28. An apparatus according to claim 23, wherein said input means is arranged to input character pitch information, and wherein said memory means stores the character pitch information as distance information corresponding to the character information to be recorded.
- 29. An apparatus according to claim 28, wherein the lateral shift of said carriage is determined by the character pitch information.
- 30. An apparatus according to claim 23, wherein said input means is arranged to input character pitch information and wherein said memory means stores the input character pitch information in said memory means in association with the corresponding character information.
- 31. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said recording means records the recording information on a recording medium having the recording surface thereon and includes means for deleting the recorded information on the recording medium.
- 32. An apparatus according to claim 31 further comprising means for instructing the deletion of the recorded information from the recording medium by said deleting means.
- 33. An apparatus according to claim 32, wherein said address means causes the recording information to be stored in said memory means to correspond to recording information recorded on the recording surface, and wherein said deleting means comprises means for automatically deleting the corresponding recording information in response to control exerted by said control means which controls said deleting means to automatically delete the corresponding recording information in response to the instruction from said deletion instruction control means.
- 34. An apparatus according to claim 33, wherein when recording information is newly input by said input means after the deletion processing conducted by said deleting means the newly input recording information is stored at the corresponding store location in said memory means.
- 35. An apparatus according to claim 34, wherein the newly input recording information is stored at the store location corresponding to the deleted recording information.
- 36. A method for performing a print head retroactive operation in a printing apparatus for feeding printing paper in forward and reverse paper feed directions with paper feed means, for conducting printing on the paper with a print head which is shiftable orthogonally to the paper feed direction and which is shiftable to a preceding line during a retroactive operation of the print head, for storing a sequence of printing data for printed characters over a plurality of print lines on the printing paper with printing data memory means, and for storing an address pointer for pointing to an address in the printing data memory means at which one of the sequence of printing data is stored with address pointer memory means, the method comprising the steps of:
- indicating a retroactive operation of the print head for editing in a preceding one of the plurality of print lines and a position in said print lines; and
- shifting the printing head from the current print line to a preceding one of the plurality of print lines during the retroactive operation of the print head, in response to the indication in the indicating step and controlling the print head and/or the address pointer in accordance with at least part of the stored printing data in the printing data memory means so that the position in the preceding line, to which the print head is shifted from the current print line is the position at which the sequence of printing data ends in accordance with the address pointed to by the address pointer.
- 37. A method according to claim 36 wherein the printing data memory means is a line buffer capable of storing a predetermined number of characters, and wherein said shifting and controlling step comprises the step of controlling the print head and/or the address pointer in accordance with at least part of the stored printing data in the line buffer.
- 38. A method according to claim 36 wherein said shifting and controlling steps are performed in accordance with a program.
- 39. A method according to claim 36 further comprising the step of storing registered printing data.
