Claims
- 1. A restaurant service system comprising a server list having a plurality barcodes corresponding to menu items and a server scanning device for scanning barcodes corresponding to a customer's order.
- 2. The restaurant service system according to claim 1, further comprising:
a customer keypad and display device disposed at customer locations within the restaurant; and processing means in communication with said scanning device, wherein said display on said customer keypad provides a display of the customer's ordered items as they are scanned by the server using said server scanning device.
- 3. The restaurant service system according to claim 1, further comprising a server receiver in communication with said customer keypad via said central station and being carried by service personnel within the restaurant, wherein said customer keypad includes a server call button for sending a call signal to said server receiver and thereby obtain the attention of the server.
- 4. The restaurant service system according to claim 1, wherein said scanning device comprises a light pen.
- 5. The restaurant service system according to claim 1, wherein said customer keypad and display provides the customer with a display of the ordered items as the server scans the corresponding barcode from the server list and further includes additional information relating to the menu items.
- 6. The restaurant service system according to claim 5, wherein the displayed ordered items includes a running cost total of the customer's order.
- 7. The restaurant service system according to claim 2, wherein said customer keypad further comprises a data port.
- 8. The restaurant service system according to claim 2, wherein said customer keypad further comprises handwriting recognition capabilities, wherein the customer may handwrite their order on said customer keypad display.
- 9. The restaurant service system according to claim 2, wherein said customer keypad further comprises a game mode providing the customer with game capabilities at each customer location.
- 10. The restaurant service system according to claim 7, wherein said data port comprises at least one selected from a group consisting of an RJ-11 modem connection port, an RJ-45 network connection port, an IEEE 1394 Fire Wire port and a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port.
- 11. A restaurant service system comprising:
a server personal digital assistant (PDA) programmed to include each menu item offered to a customer and having an input pen for inputting information into the server PDA and a plurality of buttons for selectively controlling the server's input of a customer's order.
- 12. The restaurant service system according to claim 11, further comprising:
a customer keypad and display device disposed at customer locations within the restaurant; and processing means in communication with the customer keypad and said server PDA, wherein said display on said customer keypad provides a display of the customer's ordered items as they are entered by the server into the server PDA.
- 13. The restaurant service system according to claim 11, wherein said server PDA is in direct wireless communication with the customer keypad.
- 14. The restaurant service system according to claim 11, wherein said customer keypad and display provides the customer with a display of the ordered items as the server scans the corresponding barcode from the server list and further includes additional information relating to the menu items.
- 15. The restaurant service system according to claim 14, wherein said additional information comprises nutritional, preparation, and photographic information relating to each menu item.
- 16. The restaurant service system according to claim 14, wherein the displayed ordered items includes a running total of the customer's order.
- 17. The restaurant service system according to claim 12, wherein said customer keypad further comprises a data port.
- 18. The restaurant service system according to claim 12, wherein said customer keypad further comprises handwriting recognition capabilities, wherein the customer may handwrite their order on said customer keypad display.
- 19. The restaurant service system according to claim 17, wherein said data port comprises at least one selected from a group consisting of an RJ-11 modem connection port, an RJ-45 network connection port, an IEEE 1394 Fire Wire port and a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port.
- 20. A restaurant service system comprising:
a customer personal digital assistance (PDA) disposed at customer locations with the restaurant and programmed to include each menu item offered to the customer and having an input pen for inputting information and a plurality of buttons for selectively controlling the customer's input of their requests; and a central station in wireless communication with each customer PDA and a kitchen responsible for fulfilling the customer's order, wherein said customer PDA provides a display of the customer's ordered items as they are entered and by the server into the server PDA.
- 21. The restaurant service system according to claim 20, wherein said customer PDA provides the customer with a display of the ordered items as they are entered by the customer and further includes additional information relating to the menu items.
- 22. The restaurant service system according to claim 20, wherein said plurality of buttons are programmable by the restaurant service system.
- 23. The restaurant service system according to claim 20, wherein said plurality of buttons provide functions such as, review order, deleting previously selected menu items, send order and add to previously sent order.
- 24. A restaurant service system comprising:
a point of sale device located at each customer location within the restaurant, said point of sale device having a plurality of buttons corresponding to menu items available for ordering and a display, said point of sale device receiving input directly from the customer; and a central station in wireless communication with each of said point of sale devices.
- 25. The restaurant service system according to claim 24, further comprising a server receiver carried by each server personnel and being in wireless communication with said central station, said central station forwarding received customer orders from said point of sale devices to a kitchen and the server receiver carried by the server attending to specific customer locations within the restaurant.
- 26. The restaurant service system according to claim 24, wherein said point of sale devices further comprises:
a credit card reading mechanism for enabling the customer to pay their bill without requiring server intervention; and a printer for printing the customer's check in response to a customer's check request via one of said plurality of buttons.
- 27. The restaurant service system according to claim 24, wherein said display provides the customer with a display of their ordered items as they are entered by the customer.
- 28. The restaurant service system according to claim 25, wherein said display provides the customer with other information relating to the menu items, wherein the other information includes, nutritional, preparation and photographic information.
