Claims
- 1. An interior by-pass assembly within, and normally providing an unobstructed fluid by-pass passageway through, at least a portion of the length of a service pipeline having a service end and an opposite end, comprising a length of tubing disposed within and along said length of the pipeline, a pair of longitudinally spaced-apart exterior sealing gaskets mounted substantially on and adjacent to each end of said tubing, each of said gaskets in each said pair engaging the interior wall of said pipeline so as to provide respective longitudinally spaced-apart fluid-tight peripheral seals between said tubing and said pipeline interior wall, and means defining respective fluid leakage passages extending from substantially the interior of said tubing to the respective spaces between each of said gasket pairs and against the pipeline interior wall portion therebetween, whereby fluid pressure applied within said tubing will be transmitted to and along the respective sealing peripheries of said gaskets.
- 2. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 1 wherein said service pipeline is a gas utility service line extending underground from a street gas main to and into a building, its said service end being within said building and its said opposite end being adjacent to said gas main, and said by-pass assembly extends within and substantially along all of the length of said pipeline from said gas main to said building.
- 3. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 1 which further comprises a generally cylindrical blind-end adapter attached to the end of said tubing adjacent to said opposite end of the pipeline, said gasket pair associated with said pipeline opposite end being mounted on said blind-end adapter, and said means defining a fluid leakage passage to the space between said gasket pair comprises means defining a fluid leakage aperture through said blind-end adapter.
- 4. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 3 wherein said blind-end adapter comprises two body parts having respective comating thread means connecting them together, and said means defining a fluid leakage aperture through said blind-end adapter comprises abutment interfaces between said body parts, said interfaces comprising said comating thread means.
- 5. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 3 wherein said blind-end adapter has removable plug means providing a fluid-tight seal preventing any flow of fluid therethrough at a location therealong which is on the remote side of said fluid leakage aperture with respect to said tubing.
- 6. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 5 wherein said plug includes a closure head which is movable between open and closed positions thereof, and spring means normally biasing said head towards its said open position, said head being movable against said spring bias to its said closed position in response to fluid pressure applied within said by-pass passageway from said service end of the service pipeline.
- 7. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 5 wherein said blind-end adapter includes a smooth bore portion, and said plug is slidably mounted within said smooth bore portion, said plug comprising a bullet-like body portion having a forward end facing said opposite end of said pipeline and peripheral gasket means mounted thereon which provides said fluid-tight seal, said blind-end adapter further having stop means abutting said forward end of said plug body portion to prevent slidable movement of said plug in the direction of said opposite end of the pipeline.
- 8. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 7 wherein said forward end of the plug and said blind-end adapter stop means include means preventing twisting movement of said plug within said adapter bore portion, and said plug body portion has a rearward end having coupling means thereon whereby said plug may be engaged by a comating coupling and slidably withdrawn from said adapter bore portion in the direction of said service end of the pipeline.
- 9. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 3 which further comprises a generally cylindrical service-end adapter attached to the end of said tubing adjacent to said service end of the pipeline, said gasket pair associated with said pipeline service end being mounted on said service-end adapter, and said means defining a fluid leakage passage to the space between said gasket pair comprises means defining a fluid leakage aperture through said service-end adapter.
- 10. An interior by-pass assembly according to claim 9 wherein said service-end adapter comprises two body parts having respective comating thread means connecting them together, and said means defining a fluid leakage aperture through said service-end adapter comprises abutment interfaces between said body parts, said interfaces comprising said comating thread means.
