The present invention relates generally to the field of sewer cutter devices. More specifically, the present invention relates to sewer cutters for removing roots and other debris from a drainage system. Accordingly, the present disclosure makes specific reference thereto. Nonetheless, it is to be appreciated that aspects of the present invention are also equally applicable to other like applications, devices, and methods of manufacture.
By way of background, this invention relates to improvements in sewer cutter devices. Generally, current sewer cutters often require multiple attempts to clear a drain. Further, if roots are causing the clog, it can take more than a day to completely clear the drain. Additionally, when sludge is in the drain pipe, it is almost impossible to remove it with the cutters currently available.
Furthermore, one of the problems encountered by many homeowners in residential areas is maintaining the sanitary sewer from the dwelling to its connection with the municipal gathering line free from shade trees and other vegetation roots seeking moisture, which tend to obstruct fluid flow through the sanitary sewer line. In order to maintain the sewer line open, it is frequently necessary to employ professional help in removing roots from the sewer line.
Accordingly, there is a demand for an improved sewer cutter device that provides users with sewer cutters for removing roots and other debris from a drainage system. More particularly, there is a demand for a sewer cutter device that offers plumbers and homeowners an easier way to properly clean drains and remove clogs.
Therefore, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a sewer cutter device that provides users with sewer cutters for removing roots and other debris from a drainage system. There is also a long-felt need in the art for a sewer cutter device that features triple blades and double-edges that will cut through blockages that may be clogging a drainage system. Further, there is a long-felt need in the art for a sewer cutter device that offers plumbers and homeowners an easier way to properly clean drains and remove clogs. Moreover, there is a long-felt need in the art for a device that attaches to any drain snake for case of use and convenience. Further, there is a long-felt need in the art for a sewer cutter device that features curved saws for cutting strong roots and works in both forward and reverse directions. Finally, there is a long-felt need in the art for a sewer cutter device that can be made from sturdy, flexible, and durable metal.
The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a sewer cutter device. The device is used to clear out roots and other debris from sewer pipes. The sewer cutter device comprises a body component that is configured to attach to any suitable drain snake for case of use and convenience. The body component is a curved, helical saw blade comprising a plurality of saw teeth for cutting strong roots. Each of the saw teeth comprise multiple serrations and facets on both edges, such that the device can cut in both forward and reverse directions. The sewer cutter device is made from sturdy, flexible, and durable metal. The device is designed to clear various blockages in sewage pipes and other drains, improving efficiency when working for plumbers and drain cleaners.
In this manner, the sewer cutter device of the present invention accomplishes all of the foregoing objectives and provides users with a device that removes roots and other debris from a drainage system. The device can be secured to any drain snake for case of use and convenience. The device can be manufactured of a metal material.
The following presents a simplified summary in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the disclosed innovation. This summary is not an extensive overview, and it is not intended to identify key/critical elements or to delineate the scope thereof. Its sole purpose is to present some general concepts in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.
In one embodiment, the sewer cutter device is configured as a curved, helical saw blade, which cuts and clears compacted roots and debris from a drainage system when moved in a forward and backward direction via an attached drain snake. The combined spinning motion of the drain snake and the helical shape of the device provides an efficient root cutting action for blocked sewer pipes and drains.
In one embodiment, the sewer cutter device is secured to a conventional drain snake, as is known in the art. A typical drain snake includes a body component having a rearward end and a forward end, and a longitudinal axis extending between the rearward and forward ends. The forward end has a cable feed passage. Further, the drain snake includes a cable having a rear portion coiled in the body component around the axis in a location between the rearward and forward ends. The cable has a forward portion extending out of the feed passage of the forward end of the body component. The drain snake also includes a fastener extending through the body component at the forward end and into the feed passage to secure and release the cable, as needed.
In one embodiment, the sewer cutter device comprises a body component that is configured in a curved, helical saw blade. The saw blade can be any suitable shape and size as is known in the art, as long as the saw blade can fit within the desired sewer pipe or drain to be cleared. Generally, the saw blade is an elongated length of metal twisted about its longitudinal axis to form a helical member. The helical saw blade is attached at one end portion, via screws, bolts, etc., to the forward end portion of the cable of the drain snake, or other suitable drain clearing device, to prevent movement of the device which would dislodge the device from the drain snake.
In one embodiment, the opposite or forward end of the helical saw blade is provided with a converging tip end portion having double-edged blades and other cutting surfaces, as needed. Typically, the converging tip end portion is configured in a triangular or diamond-shape with multiple cutting blades on both edges, but can be any suitable shape as is known in the art.
In one embodiment, the plurality of saw teeth comprise sharpened double and/or triple-edge blades positioned at both edges of the teeth, to provide a double-edge cutting surface. This allows the saw teeth to cut through blockages in both a forward and reverse direction, during use.
In one embodiment, the helical saw blade comprises a plurality of saw teeth, which project radially outward and comprise sharpened, double-edge cutter blades. The plurality of saw teeth also comprise multiple serrations and facets to provide additional cutting surfaces, to allow the device to cut strong roots faster.
In use, the helical saw blade is secured to an end of the drain snake. Once in place, the device and drain snake are lowered into the clogged sewer pipe or drain. When the leading end of the device encounters an entanglement of roots, such obstruction will be detected by the user noting the resistance to the drain snake and the device. The user, after pushing the device into an entanglement of roots, manually spins or rotates the drain snake, as well as, moves the device forward and reverse to cut the roots. During this movement of the helical saw blade, if any roots are encountered by the saw blade and the plurality of saw teeth, the movement of the helical saw blade acts to sever such roots and clear debris. This cycle of operation cuts roots and loosens any debris blocking the sewer pipe, and the loosen debris and cleared roots within the sewer pipe are then flushed by water downwardly to the municipal collection line.
In one embodiment, the helical saw blade is curved and flexible to bend around obstructions within the sewer pipe or to move around a curve or elbow in the pipe, as well. Specifically, the sewer cutter device is manufactured of a sturdy, flexible, and durable metal, such as aluminum, stainless steel, steel, etc., or any other suitable material as is known in the art.
In yet another embodiment, the sewer cutter device comprises a plurality of indicia.
In yet another embodiment, a method of removing roots and other debris from a drainage system is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a sewer cutter device comprising a body component that is a curved, helical saw blade with a plurality of saw teeth. The method also comprises attaching the device to a drain snake. Further, the method comprises inserting the device and drain snake into the clogged sewage pipe and drain. Finally, the method comprises manually rotating the drain snake and device to cut and clear various blockages in the sewage pipes and drains.
