Claims
- 1. A cutting assembly, comprising:
a housing; a first frame having a first longitudinally directed blade, said first frame carried on said housing and guided for reciprocation with respect to said housing in a first direction; a first means for reciprocating the first frame; a second frame carried on the housing and guided for reciprocation with respect to the housing in a second direction, the second frame having a longitudinally directed blade being at an angle to the first longitudinally directed blade; a second means for reciprocating the second frame; said first and second blades arranged to cut a product along intersecting cut planes.
- 2. The cutting assembly according to claim 1, wherein the first means comprises a dual acting cylinder, and the second means comprises a cam and roller assembly carried on respective first and second frames.
- 3. A slicing machine comprising:
a machine frame having a food loaf delivery path arranged in a longitudinal direction; a cutting assembly arranged in the delivery path, the cutting assembly having at least one longitudinally directed reciprocating blade facing upstream in the delivery path; and a slicing blade arranged in the delivery path downstream of the cutting assembly, the slicing blade arranged to slice the food loaf transversely to the longitudinal direction.
- 4. The slicing machine according to claim 3, wherein the cutting assembly comprises:
a housing; a first frame having a longitudinally directed first blade, said first frame carried on said housing and guided for reciprocation with respect to the housing in a first direction; a first means for reciprocating the first frame; a second frame carried on the housing and guided for reciprocation with respect to the housing in a second direction, the second frame having a longitudinally directed second blade being at an angle to the longitudinally directed first blade; a second means for reciprocating the second frame; the first and second blades arranged to cut a product along intersecting cut planes.
- 5. The slicing machine according to claim 3, wherein the cutting assembly further comprises a second longitudinally directed reciprocating second blade facing upstream in the delivery path, the second blade arranged to be perpendicular to the first blade.
- 6. The slicing machine according to claim 3, wherein said cutting assembly comprises:
a housing; a first frame having a longitudinally directed first blade, said first frame carried on said housing and arranged for reciprocation with respect to the housing in a first direction; a second frame carried on the housing and arranged for reciprocation with respect to the housing in a second direction, the second frame having at least one longitudinally directed second blade being at an angle to said longitudinally directed first blade; the first and second blades arranged to cut a product along intersecting cut planes.
- 7. The slicing machine according to claim 6, wherein the cutting assembly comprises a dual acting cylinder operatively connected to said first frame and operable to reciprocate said first frame, and comprising a cam and roller assembly carried on said respective first and second frames and operable to reciprocate said second frame.
- 8. The slicing machine according to claim 6, wherein said intersecting cut planes are perpendicular.
- 9. The slicing machine according to claim 6, wherein said at least one second blade comprises a plurality of second blades, said second blades carried by said second frame and arranged in parallel and spaced-apart.
- 10. A cutting assembly, comprising:
a housing; a first frame having a longitudinally directed first blade, said first frame carried on said housing and arranged for reciprocation with respect to the housing in a first direction; a second frame carried on the housing and arranged for reciprocation with respect to the housing in a second direction, the second frame having at least one longitudinally directed second blade being at an angle to said first longitudinally directed second blade; the first and second blades arranged to cut a product along intersecting cut planes.
- 11. The cutting assembly according to claim 10, comprising a dual acting cylinder operatively connected to said first frame and operable to reciprocate said first frame, and comprising a cam and roller assembly carried on said respective first and second frames and operable to reciprocate said second frame.
- 12. The cutting assembly according to claim 10, wherein said intersecting cut planes are perpendicular.
- 13. The cutting assembly according to claim 10, wherein said at least one second blade comprises a plurality of second blades, said second blades carried by said second frame and arranged in parallel and spaced-apart.
- 14. A method of cutting portions from a loaf comprising the steps of:
translating said loaf in a longitudinal direction; pressing said loaf into at least one reciprocating blade directed in a longitudinal direction facing said loaf, to divide said loaf; and passing said divided loaf into the path of a laterally arranged slicing blade to slice the divided loaf in the lateral direction.
- 15. The method according to claim 14, wherein said step of pressing said loaf into at least one reciprocating blade is further defined in that said loaf is pressed into two intersecting reciprocating blades to divide the loaf into at least four sections.
