Claims
- 1. A printer for transferring images onto recording paper comprising:
- a platen roller having a circumferential surface to which said recording paper may be releasably clamped and wound for the printing of images;
- a driving means for rotatably driving said platen roller in a rotational direction, said direction of rotation defining at least an output position and a printing position;
- a thermal printing head disposed at said printing position and being moveable during a printing operation between a first position wherein said head is in operational contact with said circumferential surface for transferring images onto said recording paper clamped to said surface and for applying a pressure force to said paper, and a second position wherein said head is out of contact with said surface;
- a discharge means disposed at said output position for discharging said recording paper following completion of the transfer of images thereto; and
- an ink sheet moveably disposed between said circumferential surface and said thermal printing head, said ink sheet comprising at least a first area containing an ink and being operative for transfer of said ink to said paper by said printing head and a second area operative to permit contact by said head for applying a pressure force to facilitate movement of said paper to said discharge means without transfer of color.
- 2. A printer according to claim 1, in which said first area comprises image sheet areas coated with ink in Y (yellow), M (magenta), and C (cyan).
- 3. A printer according to claim 1, in which said first area comprises image sheet areas coated with ink in at least one of Y (yellow), M (magenta), and C (cyan) and said second area is a transparent dummy sheet area.
- 4. A printer according to claim 1, in which said first area comprises image sheet areas coated in order with ink in Y (yellow), M (magenta), and C (cyan) and said second area is a transparent dummy sheet area.
- 5. A printer according to claim 4, in which each of said image sheet areas is at least the size of said paper sheet.
- 6. A printer according to claim 3, in which said ink sheet is moveable in a direction of movement and in synchronism with said rotation of said platen roller during printing of each color separately.
- 7. A printer according to claim 1, in which said printer comprises an output channel in communication with said discharge means and said ink sheet is moveable in synchronism with said rotation of said platen roller during said transfer to said output channel.
- 8. A printer according to claim 1, wherein said head is being pressed against said second area for providing a closely contacting relationship between said sheet and paper, whereby a driving force may be applied to said paper.
- 9. A printer according to claim 1, further comprising control means for simultaneously controlling the moving of said ink sheet, the rotation of said roller having said paper thereon, the clamping of said paper to said roller circumference and for operating said head to apply a pressing force to said sheet and paper.
- 10. A printer according to claim 9, wherein said control means is operative to selectively energize said head for printing while said ink sheet is in said first area and for deenergizing said head when said ink sheet is in said second area.
- 11. A printer according to claim 6, wherein said transparent dummy sheet area of said ink sheet is a transparent area with no ink coated thereon and which is provided after said first area in said direction of movement of said ink sheet.
