Abstract
A shirt collar support that maintains the collar of a shirt raised and crisp. The shirt collar support comprises of a pliable wire that is between 18 to 24 inches in length. The pliable wire has a central axis point and a first and a second end. The pliable wire is u-shaped and adjacent to each end of the pliable wire there is a first and a second hinge. From the central axis of the pliable wire, the first hinge of the pliable wire returns the pliable wire towards the central axis of the pliable wire. The second hinge is positioned at least one inch from each end of the pliable wire and it directs each end of the pliable wire outwards from the central axis point.
Description
BACKGROUND

The following background information may present examples of specific aspects of the prior art (e.g., without limitation, approaches, facts, or common wisdom) that, while expected to be helpful to further educate the reader as to additional aspects of the prior art, is not to be construed as limiting the present invention, or any embodiments thereof; to anything stated or implied therein or inferred thereupon.


The present invention is directed to a shirt collar support that is used on a dress shirt or polo shirt to lift the collar of the dress shirt or polo shirt. The shirt collar support is placed around the collar of a shirt and it lifts the collar of the shirt so that the shirt appears to be pressed and crisp while being worn.


The inventor of the present invention has always worn dress shirts with ties and has always looked sharp when dressing. When he came to South Florida, he realized that it was not practical to use ties in the heat, for the temperature made ties extremely uncomfortable and impractical to use.


As he adapted to South Florida, he realized that a majority of the time he was forced to wear dress shirts without ties.


Prior to this invention, when he wore dress shirts he realized that the collars of the shirts would fall and open as the day progressed due to the heat and humidity.


The need to have the collar of his shirts look sharp and crisp throughout the day is what caused him to conceive the present invention.


He conceived a malleable shirt collar support that would rest around the outside of a dress shirt. The shirt collar support would rest on the shoulders of a user. The shirt collar support lifts the collar of a shirt so that the collar of the shirt remains sharp and crisp while the shirt is in use. The shirt collar support requires two hinges on each end of the shirt collar support to raise the collar of a dress shirt to a raised and sharp position. And, each end of the shirt collar support is designed not damage the collar of a shirt and must be designed to be hidden from view when used.


For the foregoing reasons, there is a need for a shirt collar support that will maintain the collar of a shirt raised and crisp, and that will also be hidden from view when worn.


SUMMARY

The present invention is meant to be worn with dress shirts. Ideally, dress shirt collars will have stiff and an ironed appearance. When dress shirts are used, especially in hot and humid environments, shirt collars tend to lose their crispness and ironed look. The present invention provides a device that will allow shirt collars to appear crisp an ironed when used.


The present invention is a shirt collar support that maintains the collars of the shirts raised and crisp. The shirt collar support comprises of a pliable wire that is between 18 to 24 inches in length. The pliable wire has a central axis point and a first and a second end. The pliable wire is u-shaped and adjacent to each end of the pliable wire there is a first and a second hinge. From the central axis of the pliable wire, the first hinge of the pliable wire returns the pliable wire toward the central axis of the pliable wire. The second hinge is positioned at least one inch from each end of the pliable wire and it directs each end of the pliable wire outwards from the central axis point.


The first hinges allow the pliable wire to be adjusted to fit around different size shirt collars in a hidden manner. The second hinges allow the pliable wire to be able to be positioned in a manner that would allow the user to raise the collar to a desired height.


In an embodiment of the present invention, the ends of the pliable wire define a knob or rounded protrusion. The knobs or rounded protrusions lift the shirt collars without damaging the collars.


In other embodiments of the present invention, the pliable wire is covered with a plastic or rubber material to protect the shirt in which the shirt collar support is mounted.


The present invention is used on dress shirts and polo shirts to lift the collars of the shirts. The invention is used by placing the u-shaped pliable wire around the neck portion of the shirt so that the pliable wire rests on or adjacent to the collar bone of the user of the shirt and the first and second hinges are adjusted to raise the front of the collar of the shirt to a desired height and appearance.


An object of the present invention is to provide a shirt collar support that will lift the collar of a shirt so that it looks crisp and freshly ironed.

DESCRIPTION

The present invention, referenced in FIGS. 1-2, is directed to a shirt collar support 100. The shirt collar support 100 comprises of a pliable wire 100 that is between 18 to 24 inches in length. The pliable wire 100 has a central axis point 100a and a first and a second end 30. The pliable wire is u-shaped 100 and adjacent to each end of the pliable wire there is a first 10 and a second hinge 20. From the central axis 100a of the pliable wire 100, the first hinge 10 of the pliable wire 100 returns the pliable wire 100 toward the central axis of the pliable wire 100a. The second hinge 20 is positioned at least one inch from each end 30 of the pliable wire 100 and the second hinge 20 directs each end of the pliable wire 30 outwards from the central axis point 100a.


The first hinges 10 allow the pliable wire 100 to be adjusted to fit around different size shirt collars in a hidden manner. The second hinges 20 allow the pliable wire 100 to be able to be positioned in a manner that would allow the user to raise the shirt collar to a desired height.


In an embodiment of the present invention, the ends 30 of the pliable wire 100 define a knob 30 or rounded protrusion 30. The knob 30 or rounded protrusion 30 lift the shirt collar without damaging the shirt collar.


In other embodiments of the present invention, the pliable wire 100 is covered with a plastic or rubber material to protect the shirt in which it is mounted.


The present invention is used on dress shirts and polo shirts to in the collars of the shirts. The invention is used by placing the u-shaped pliable wire 100 around the neck portion of the shirt so that the pliable wire 100 rests on or adjacent to the collar bone of the user of the shirt and the first 10 and second 20 hinges are adjusted to raise the front of the collar of the shirt to a desired height and appearance.


An advantage of the present invention is that it provides a shirt collar support that lifts the collar of a shirt so that the shirt collar looks crisp and freshly ironed.


While the inventor's above description contains many specificities, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope, but rather as an exemplification of several preferred embodiments thereof Many other variations are possible. Accordingly, the scope should be determined not by the embodiments illustrated, but by the appended claims and their legal equivalents.

Claims
  • 1. A Shirt collar support that lifts the shirt collar of a shirt, the shirt collar support comprises a pliable wire that is between 18 to 24 inches in length, the pliable wire has a central axis point and a first and a second end, the pliable wire is u-shaped and adjacent to each end of the pliable wire there is a first and a second hinge, from the central axis of the pliable wire, the first hinge of the pliable wire returns the pliable wire toward the central axis of the pliable wire, the second hinge is positioned at least one inch from each end of the pliable wire and the second hinge directs each end of the pliable wire outwards from the central axis point.
  • 2. The shirt collar support that lifts the shirt collar of a shirt of claim 1, wherein the ends of the pliable wire are a knob or a rounded protrusion.
  • 3. The shirt collar support that lifts the shirt collar of a shirt of claim 2, wherein the pliable wire is covered with a plastic or a rubber material.
