- 2. The shoe bag of claim 1 having a plurality of apertures therein, wherein the average open area of said apertures is at least about 0.08 cm2 and less than or equal to about 5 cm2.
- 3. The shoe bag of claim 1 having a longitudinal axis, said shoe bag further comprising at least one aperture which is aligned transverse to the longitudinal axis of the shoe bag.
- 4. The shoe bag according to any of the preceding claims wherein the shoe bag has a Relative Seam Abrasion which is at least 10%.
- 5. A shoe bag according to any of the preceding claims wherein the shoe bag has a Relative Sockliner Fibrillation which is at least 10%.
- 6. A shoe bag according to claim 1 wherein said walls of said enclosures are formed from a woven mesh having a plurality of apertures therein.
- 7. The shoe bag of claim 6 wherein at least one of said meshes has apertures whose average open area is between 0.7 cm2 and 2 cm2.
- 8. A shoe bag according to claim 1 comprising a material selected from the group consisting essentially of: polyethylene, polyester, polypropylene, cotton, nylon, and combinations thereof.
- 9. A shoe bag according to claim 1 wherein said outer wall has a tensile strength which is at least 800 gms/cm2.
- 10. A shoe bag according to claim 1 wherein said flexible side wall further comprising two longitudinal side walls and two transverse side walls and wherein each longitudinal side wall is formed from a plurality of panels.
- 11. The shoe bag of claim 10 wherein said plurality of panels comprises a first panel forming the interior surface of said compartment and a second panel disposed adjacent said first panel and wherein said first and second panels each comprises a plurality of apertures and wherein said apertures of said first panel are smaller than said apertures of said second panel.
- 12. A shoe bag according to claim 10 or 11 wherein said side walls are joined together about their openings.
- 13. A shoe bag according to claim 1 wherein said closure is a drawstring.
- 14. A shoe bag for use in a washing machine, said shoe bag comprising:an enclosure having an opening, a plurality of side walls, and a bottom wall connected to said side walls, wherein said side walls and said opening define a compartment adapted for storing a shoe during use and wherein at least one of said side walls is formed from a first material having a plurality of apertures of a first size and wherein at least one other of said side walls is formed from a second material having a plurality of apertures of a second size, wherein said second size is greater than said first size, wherein said first material and said second material each exhibit an aperture density, the aperture density of said first material being greater than the aperture density of said second material, wherein at least some of said apertures of said first size and said apertures of said second size are adapted to allow wash water to flow through, and wherein at least some of said apertures of said second size are adapted to allow wash water contaminants to flow through.
- 15. The shoe bag of claim 14 wherein said first material is a woven fabric comprising a micro denier yarn.
- 16. The shoe bag of claim 14 or 15 wherein said yarn composes two plys.
- 17. A shoe bag for use in a washing machine, said shoe bag comprising:an enclosure having a parallelpiped shape, said enclosure defining an opening, and comprising a pair of spaced apart longitudinal side walls each having a length and a height, a pair of spaced apart transverse side walls, and a bottom wall connected to said side walls, wherein said walls and said opening define a compartment adapted for storing a shoe during use, wherein said enclosure has a length measured along the length of said longitudinal side walls, a width measured between said longitudinal side walls, and a height measured between the bottom wall and said opening, wherein the length of said enclosure is adapted to accommodate an athletic shoe placed lengthwise therein and the width of said enclosure is less than said height, and at least one of said longitudinal and transverse side walls is formed from a material having a plurality of apertures wherein at least some of said apertures are adapted to allow wash water to flow through.
- 18. The shoe bag of claim 17 wherein said apertures have an average open area of between about 0.2 cm2 and about 3 cm2 so that shoe contaminants including dirt, grass and particulate substances can be removed through at least some of said apertures with said wash water.
- 19. The shoe bag of claim 17 wherein said longitudinal side walls each have a periphery, and there is a juncture formed between said longitudinal side walls and said end walls, and a juncture formed between said longitudinal side walls and said bottom wall, and a portion of said opening at the transverse ends of the enclosure is defined by a portion of each of the transverse end walls, said shoe bag further comprising a pair of seams comprising a seam along a portion of the periphery of each longitudinal side wall, one of said seams being on each side of said shoe bag and extending along the juncture of said longitudinal side walls with said transverse end walls and said bottom wall and extending from the portion of said opening located at one of the transverse ends of said enclosure to the portion of said opening located at the other transverse end of said enclosure.
