Claims
- 1. A portable device comprising:
a) a body; b) memory within the body containing software; c) an interface associated with the memory and adapted to facilitate interaction with the host computing device; d) the software adapted to:
i) execute on the host computing device in association with a first web-based shopping session at a first web site; and ii) store information bearing on an item selected for purchase during the first web-based shopping session on the portable device for use during a second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item during the second web-based shopping session wherein a portable electronic shopping cart is provided on the portable device.
- 2. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the first and second web-based shopping sessions are facilitated at the first web site and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to provide the information bearing on the item selected for purchase to the web site during the second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item.
- 3. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the first and second web-based shopping sessions are facilitated at different web sites and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to provide the information bearing on the item selected for purchase to a second web site during the second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item at the second web site.
- 4. The portable device of claim 3 wherein the information bearing on the item selected for purchase is a generic identifier recognizable by the first and second web sites.
- 5. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the portable device stores account information for purchasing the item and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to access the account information and provide the account information to the web site to facilitate purchase of the item selected for purchase.
- 6. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the account information includes certain information selected from the group consisting of billing address, financial account numbers, credit card information, and debit card information.
- 7. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the portable device stores shipping information for the item selected for purchase and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to access the shipping information and provide the shipping information to the web site to facilitate delivery of the item selected for purchase.
- 8. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the portable device stores login information for the web site and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to automatically provide the login information upon entering the web site.
- 9. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the software is further adapted to provide an authentication routine to execute on the host computing device, the authentication routine instructing the host computing device to receive authentication indicia from a user via an interface on the host computing device and determine if the authentication indicia received from the user matches authentication indicia stored in the memory.
- 10. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the software is further adapted to automatically execute on the host computing device and, in association with termination of the shopping session, instruct the host computing device to remove records pertaining to the shopping session from the host computing device to enhance privacy associated with the shopping session.
- 11. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the software is adapted to emulate a file system resident on a memory device of the host computing device when interacting with the host computing device.
- 12. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the software and data are adapted to appear as a file system to the host computing device.
- 13. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the interface is adapted to directly interface a port in the host computing device.
- 14. The portable device of claim 1 wherein the interface is adapted to provide a wireless interface with the host computing device.
- 15. A computer readable medium including software to reside on a portable device capable of interacting with a plurality of host computing devices, the software comprising instructions to:
a) execute the software on the host computing device in association with a first web-based shopping session at a first web site; and b) store information bearing on an item selected for purchase during the first web-based shopping session on the portable device for use during a second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item during the second web-based shopping session wherein a portable electronic shopping cart is provided on the portable device.
- 16. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the first and second web-based shopping sessions are facilitated at the first web site and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to provide the information bearing on the item selected for purchase to the web site during the second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item.
- 17. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the first and second web-based shopping sessions are facilitated at different web sites and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to provide the information bearing on the item selected for purchase to a second web site during the second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item at the second web site.
- 18. The computer readable medium of claim 17 wherein the information bearing on the item selected for purchase is a generic identifier recognizable by the first and second web sites.
- 19. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the portable device stores account information for purchasing the item and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to access the account information and provide the account information to the web site to facilitate purchase of the item selected for purchase.
- 20. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the account information includes certain information selected from the group consisting of billing address, financial account numbers, credit card information, and debit card information.
- 21. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the portable device stores shipping information for the item selected for purchase and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to access the shipping information and provide the shipping information to the web site to facilitate delivery of the item selected for purchase.
- 22. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the portable device stores login information for the web site and the software is further adapted to instruct the host computing device to automatically provide the login information upon entering the web site.
- 23. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the software is further adapted to provide an authentication routine to execute on the host computing device, the authentication routine instructing the host computing device to receive authentication indicia from a user via an interface on the host computing device and determine if the authentication indicia received from the user matches authentication indicia stored in the memory.
- 24. The computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the software is further adapted to automatically execute on the host computing device and, in association with termination of the shopping session, instruct the host computing device to remove records pertaining to the shopping session from the host computing device to enhance privacy associated with the shopping session.
- 25. A method for implementing a portable web-based shopping cart using a portable device capable of interacting with a plurality of host computing devices, the method comprising:
a) executing software resident on the portable device on a host computing device in association with a first web-based shopping session at a first web site; and b) storing information bearing on an item selected for purchase during the first web-based shopping session on the portable device for use during a second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item during the second web-based shopping session wherein a portable electronic shopping cart is provided on the portable device.
- 26. The method of claim 25 wherein the first and second web-based shopping sessions are facilitated at the first web site and the method further comprising providing the information bearing on the item selected for purchase and stored on the portable device to the web site during the second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item.
- 27. The method of claim 25 wherein the first and second web-based shopping sessions are facilitated at different web sites, the method further comprising providing the information bearing on the item selected for purchase and stored on the portable device to the web site during the second web-based shopping session to facilitate purchase of the item at the second web site.
- 28. The method of claim 27 wherein the information bearing on the item selected for purchase is a generic identifier recognizable by the first and second web sites.
- 29. The method of claim 25 wherein the portable device stores account information for purchasing the item and further comprising accessing the account information and providing the account information to the web site to facilitate purchase of the item selected for purchase.
- 30. The method of claim 25 wherein the account information includes certain information selected from the group consisting of billing address, financial account numbers, credit card information, and debit card information.
- 31. The method of claim 25 wherein the portable device stores shipping information for the item selected for purchase and further comprising accessing the shipping information and providing the shipping information to the web site to facilitate delivery of the item selected for purchase.
- 32. The method of claim 25 wherein the portable device stores login information for the web site and further comprising providing the login information upon entering the web site.
- 33. The method of claim 25 further comprising:
a) providing an authentication routine to execute on the host computing device; b) receiving authentication indicia from the user via an interface on the host computing device; and c) determining if the authentication indicia received from the user matches authentication indicia stored in the memory.
- 34. The method of claim 25 further comprising removing records pertaining to the shopping session from the host computing device to enhance privacy associated with the shopping session in association with termination of the shopping session.
