Claims
- 1. A decoder for reproducing information from an encoded signal that includes frequency-domain transform coefficients generated by a transform conversion circuit in response to audio signal samples grouped into time-domain blocks based on a block time length determination and that further includes block time length information representing the block time length determination performed during encoding, comprising: reverse conversion means including means for grouping the frequency-domain transform coefficients into transform blocks having lengths determined in response to the block time length information used during encoding and means for applying an inverse discrete transform function to each of the frequency-domain transform blocks and generating time-domain signal sample blocks in response to the frequency-domain transform coefficients.
- 2. A decoder according to claim 1, further comprising waveform connecting means for connecting each of the time-domain signal sample blocks to form a continuous reproduced signal waveform.
- 3. A decoder for reproducing information from an encoded signal that includes frequency-domain transform coefficients generated in response to quantized signal samples of information grouped into time-domain blocks by window processing and that further includes block time length information used during encoding, comprising:
- reverse transform conversion means including means for grouping the frequency-domain transform coefficients into frequency-domain transform blocks and means for generating time-domain signals sample blocks in response to the frequency-domain transform coefficients applying an inverse discrete transform function to each of said frequency-domain transform blocks; and
- means for establishing at least one of the block time-domain signal sample blocks and the inverse discrete transform in response to the block time length information used during encoding of the encoded signal.
- 4. A decoder for reproducing information from an encoded signal that includes frequency-domain transform coefficients generated in response to quantized signal samples of information grouped into time-domain signal sample blocks, in which each of the time-domain signal sample blocks are window processed, the decoder comprising:
- reverse window processing means for grouping the frequency-domain transform coefficients into frequency-domain transform blocks;
- reverse transform means for generating time-domain signal sample blocks in response to the frequency-domain transform function and including means for applying an inverse discrete transform function to each of the frequency-domain transform blocks and for implementing the inverse discrete transform in response to block time length information used during encoding of the encoded signal; and
- waveform connecting means for connecting each signal sample block following inverse transformation into a continuous signal waveform.
- 5. A method of decoding information from an encoded signal that includes frequency-domain transform coefficients generated by a transform conversion circuit in response to audio signal samples grouped into time-domain blocks based on a block time length determination and that includes block time length information representing the block time length determination performed during encoding, comprising the steps of:
- grouping the frequency-domain transform coefficients into transform blocks based on the block time length information;
- applying an inverse discrete transform function to each of the frequency-domain transform blocks; and
- generating time-domain signal sample blocks in response to the frequency-domain transform coefficients.
- 6. A method of decoding according to claim 5, comprising the further steps of connecting each of the time-domain signal sample blocks and forming a continuous reproduced signal waveform.
- 7. A method of decoding information from an encoded signal that includes frequency-domain transform coefficients generated in response to quantized signal samples of information grouped into time-domain blocks by window processing, comprising the steps of:
- grouping the frequency-domain transform coefficients into frequency-domain transform blocks;
- generating time-domain signal sample blocks in response to the frequency-domain transform coefficients;
- applying an inverse discrete transform function to each of said frequency-domain transform blocks; and
- establishing at least one of the block time-domain signal sample blocks and the inverse discrete transform in response to block time length information used during encoding of the encoded signal.
- 8. A method of decoding information from an encoded signal that includes frequency-domain transform coefficients generated in response to quantized signal samples of information grouped into time-domain signal sample blocks, in which each of the time-domain signal sample blocks is window processed, comprising the steps of:
- grouping the frequency-domain transform coefficients into frequency-domain transform blocks to perform reverse window processing;
- generating time-domain signal sample blocks by applying an inverse discrete frequency-domain transform function to each of the frequency-domain transform blocks;
- establishing in response to block time length information used during encoding of the encoded signal the inverse discrete frequency-domain transform function; and
- connecting each signal sample block following inverse transformation to form a continuous signal waveform.
