Claims
- 1. A silane oligomer of the formula [R3SiO1/2]m[O1/2Si(R2)O1/2]n[SiO3/2R]o[SiO4/2]p whereinEach R is selected individually from the group consisting of B, R1, —OR1 and W; whereinB is a silane group bridged by other than an Si—O bond to the Si atom of the siloxane oligomer backbone; Each R1 is individually a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; each W individually is a monovalent radical; with the proviso that at least one R is a B and at least one-quarter of the R groups are OR1 and less than five percent of the O1/2Si(R2)O1/2 groups have two R1 on them; m=2 to 20; n=0 to 50; o=0 to 10; and p=0 to 5.
- 2. A silane according to claim 1 wherein B is —CfH2f—SiR2g(X)3−g wherein f=2 to 12, g=0 to 2, X is a halogen or —OR2, and each R2 is selected from W and R1.
- 3. A silane oligomer according to claim 2 wherein m+n+o+p<50.
- 4. A silane oligomer according to claim 3 wherein W is an unsaturated non-aromatic hydrocarbon, hydroxy, an amine, an ester, a polyalkylene oxide, a thioester, an amide, a carbamate, an epoxy, cyano, polysulfide, or isocyanurate.
- 5. A silane oligomer according to claim 4 wherein at least half of the R groups are —OR1.
- 6. A silane oligomer according to claim 5 wherein o=0, m=2 and n=0 to 15.
- 7. A silane oligomer according to claim 1 wherein if there is an R1 on a silicon atom, the other R's on that silicon atom are not R1.
- 8. A silane oligomer of the formula [R3SiO1/2]m[O1/2Si(R2)O1/2]n[SiO3/2R]o[SiO4/2]p whereinEach R is selected individually from the group consisting of B, R1, —OR1 and W; whereinB is a silane group bridged by other than an Si—O bond to the Si atom of the siloxane oligomer backbone; Each R1 is individually a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; each W individually is a monovalent radical; with the proviso that at least one R is a B and at least one-quarter of the R groups are OR1; m=2 to 20; n=0 to 50; o=0 to 10; and p=0 to 5 wherein at least one R is W wherein W is selected from the group consisting of: unsaturated non-aromatic hydrocarbon, hydroxy, an amine, an ester, a polyalkylene oxide, a thioester, an amide, a carbamate, an epoxy, cyano, polysulfide, and isocyanurate.
- 9. A silane oligomer according to claim 8 wherein W is a polysulfide.
- 10. A silane oligomer according to claim 8 wherein W is an aromatic hydrocarbon.
- 11. A silane oligomer according to claim 8 wherein W is a thioester.
- 12. A silane oligomer according to claim 8 wherein B is an alkylene.
- 13. A silane oligomer according to claim 8 wherein if there is an R1 on a silicon atom any other R's on the silicon atom are other than R1.
- 14. A silane oligomer according to claim 13 wherein B is an alkylene group.
- 15. A composition comprising:(a) a silane oligomer of the formula [R3SiO1/2]m[O1/2Si(R2)O1/2]n[SiO3/2R]o[SiO4/2]p whereinEach R is selected individually from the group consisting of B, R1, —OR1 and W; whereinB is a silane group bridged by other than an Si—O bond to the Si atom of the siloxane oligomer backbone; Each R1 is individually a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; each W individually is a monovalent radical; with the proviso that at least one R is a B and at least one-quarter of the R groups are OR1; m=2 to 20; n=0 to 50; o=0 to 10; p=0 to 5; and (b) a film-forming polymer selected from the group consisting of alkyd, polyester, acrylic, epoxide, urethane, silicone, aminoplast, phenolic resin, melamine, urea, polyamide, allyl ester, styrene copolymers, ethyl cellulose, PTFE, vinyl chloroacetate and combinations thereof.
- 16. A composition according to claim 15 wherein the polymer is an alkyd.
- 17. A composition according to claim 15 wherein the polymer is a polyamide.
- 18. A silane oligomer of the formula [R3SiO1/2]m[O1/2Si(R2)O1/2]n[SiO3/2R]o[SiO4/2]p whereineach R is selected individually from the group consisting of B, R1, OR1, and W wherein B is —CfH2f—SiR2g(X)3−g such that f is 2 to 12, g is 0 to 2, X is a halogen or —OR2, and each R2 is selected from W and R1;each R1 is methyl or ethyl; each W is an unsaturated non-aromatic hydrocarbon, hydroxy, an amine, an ester, a polyallylene oxide, a thioester, an amide, a carbatnate; an epoxy, cyano, polysulfide, or isocyanurate; with the proviso that at least one R is a B and at least one-half of the R groups are OR1 and less than five percent of the O1/2Si(R2)O1/2 groups have at least two R1; m is 2; n is 0 to 15; o is 0; p is 0 to 5; and m+n+o+p is less than 50.
- 19. A silane oligomer of the formula [R3SiO1/2]m[O1/2Si(R2)O1/2]n[SiO3/2R]o[SiO4/2]p whereineach R is selected individually from the group consisting of B, R1, OR1, and W wherein B is selected from the group consisting of —(CH2)2Si(OCH3)3, —(CH)2)2)Si(OC2H5)3, (CH2)2Si(OCH3)2(CH3), —(CH2)2Si(OCH3)2Cl, —C2H4(C6H9) C(2H4Si(OCH3)3)2, —C2H4(C5H8)C2H4Si(OC2H5)3, and —C2H4Si(OCH3)2(OSi(OCH3)3);each R1 is methyl or ethyl; each W is an unsaturated non-aromatic hydrocarbon, hydroxy, an amine, an ester, a polyalkylene oxide, a thioester, an amide, a carbamate; an epoxy, cyano, polysulfide, or isocyanurate; with the proviso that at least one R is a B and at least one-half of the R groups are OR1 and less than five percent of the O1/2Si(R2)O1/2 groups have at least two R1; m is 2; n is 0 to 15; o is 0; p is 0 to 5; and m+n+o+p is less than 50.
