Claims
- 1. A catalyst comprising phosphoric acid and a silica catalyst support having about 96 or more weight percent silica, a surface area in the range of about 30 to about 125 square meters per gram; an average pore diameter of about 100 to about 5,000 Angstroms, and a bulk density in the range of about 0.3 to 0.6 gram per cubic centimeter, said support being made by calcining a composite comprised predominantly of precipitated amorphous silica powder having an average size consisting essentially of about 10 to about 50 millimicrons.
- 2. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein the phosphoric acid comprises about 30 to about 40 percent by weight of the total weight of the catalyst.
