Claims
- 1. An electrically insulating composition that insulates at high temperatures, the composition comprising a silicone polymer composite, the silicone polymer composite consisting essentially of:at least one ground silicate mineral, the at least one ground silicate mineral selected from of talc and mica, and the at least one ground silicate mineral being surface treated with at least one silane coupling agent; and a silicone polymer.
- 2. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicate mineral comprises at least one mineral selected from a group consisting of:olivine group; garnet group; aluminosilicates; ring silicates; chain silicates; and sheet silicates.
- 3. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicate mineral comprises at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of:forsterite and Mg2SiO4.
- 4. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicate mineral comprises at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of:pyrope; Mg3Al2Si3O12; grossular; and Ca2Al2Si3O12.
- 5. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicate mineral comprises at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of:sillimanite; Al2SiO5; mullite; 3Al2O32SiO2; kyanite; and Al2SiO5.
- 6. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicate minerals comprises at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of:cordierite and Al3(Mg,Fe)2[Si4AlO18].
- 7. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicate mineral comprises at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of:wollastonite and Ca[SiO3].
- 8. The composition according to claim 1, at least one ground silicate mineral comprises at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of:mica; K2Al14[Si6Al2O20](OH)4; pyrophyllite; Al4[Si8O20](OH)4; talc; Mg6[Si8O20](OH)4; serpentine, asbestos; Kaolinite; Al4[Si4O10](OH)8; vermiculite; and Mg,Ca)0.7(Mg,Fe,Al)6[(Al,Si)8O20](OH)48H2O.
- 9. The composition according to claim 1, wherein a ratio of the at least one ground silicate mineral to the at least one silicone polymer is about 20% by weight.
- 10. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition is essentially free from alkali metals.
- 11. The composition according to claim 1, the composition further comprising at least one of fillers and heat stabilizing additives.
- 12. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the at least one ground silicone mineral is substantially powder and homogeneously mixed into the at least one silicone polymer.
- 13. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the at least one ground silicone mineral comprises at least one mineral that is formed by a coordination of SiO4 tetrahedra, the at least one mineral formed by a coordination of SiO4 tetrahedra comprising at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of: aluminum, magnesium, calcium and iron.
- 14. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicone mineral selected from the group consisting of at least one of:forsterite; Mg2SiO4; pyrope; Mg3Al2Si3O12; grossular; Ca2Al2Si3O12, sillimanite; Al2SiO5; mullite; 3Al2O32SiO2; kyanite; Al2SiO5; cordierite; Al3(Mg,Fe)2[Si4AlO18]; wollastonite; Ca[SiO3]; mica; K2Al14[Si6Al2O20](OH)4; pyrophyllite; Al4[Si8O20](OH)4; talc; Mg6[Si8O20](OH)4; serpentine, asbestos; Kaolinite; Al4[Si4O10](OH)8; vermiculite; and Mg,Ca)0.7(Mg,Fe,Al)6[(Al,Si)8O20](OH)48H2O.
- 15. The composition according to claim 1, the at least one ground silicone mineral comprising at least one silicone gum.
- 16. The composition according to claim 1, wherein a ratio of the at least one ground silicate mineral to the at least one silicone polymer is in a range between about 5% to about 40% by weight.
- 17. The composition according to claim 1, wherein a ratio of the at least one ground silicate mineral to the at least one silicone polymer is in a range between about 15% to about 20% by weight is further preferable.
- 18. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition is fire resistant, and when placed on an electrical conductor, provides fire and high temperature insulation to the electrical conductor.
