The apparatus in claim 2 in which each of said blades includes means defining a center hole therein and in which each of said first and second cutting means further includes rotatable mounting means for mounting each of said blades, sad rotatable mounting means including a spindle, a bearing having an outer race and an inner race, means for fastening said inner race to said spindle, means for fastening said outer race to sad blade, cover means for closing said center hole and means for fastening said cover means to said spindle.
- 5. The apparatus in claim 1 in which said first support includes an elongated generally horizontally extending first member, and first biasing means for biasing one end portion of said first member upwardly wherein said first cutting means is mounted to said one end portion.
- 6. The apparatus in claim 5 in which said second support means includes an elongated generally horizontally extending second member, another pivot means for pivotally mounting said second member and second biasing means for biasing one end portion of said second member upwardly, wherein said second cutting means is mounted to said one end portion of said second member.
- 7. The apparatus in claim 1 wherein at least one of said first and second supports includes a pair of parallel arms extending in a horizontal plane and a plate spanning said pair of parallel arms.
- 8. The apparatus in claim 7 in which said plate has a chamfered leading edge and a double-beveled trailing edge.
- 9. An apparatus for unnailing wood pallets having first and second spaced sets of slats nailed to opposite sides of a plurality of wood stringers, said apparatus comprising:
- first and second cutting means for cutting nails;
- first support means for supporting said first cutting means, said first support means includes an elongated generally horizontally extending first member, first pivot means for pivotally mounting said first members and first biasing means for biasing one end portion of said first member upwardly wherein said first cutting means is mounted to said one end portion, said first pivot means being between said one end portion of said first member and an opposite end portion of said first member opposite said one end portion and in which said first biasing means includes means for biasing said opposite end portion of said first member downwardly;
- second support means for supporting said second cutting means vertically above said first cutting means, said second support means includes an elongated generally horizontally extending second member, second pivot means for pivotally mounting said second member and second biasing means for biasing one end portion of sad second member upwardly, wherein said second cutting means is mounted to said one end portion of said second member;
- means for causing relative horizontal movement between a wood pallet and said first and second cutting means; and
- each of said first and second support means including self-aligning guide means for guiding the associated said cutting means to the interface between a pallet stringer and one set of slats.
- 10. The apparatus in claim 9 in which said first and second pivot means are positioned to mount said first and second members to pivot about a common axis.
- 11. The apparatus in claim 10 in which said second biasing means includes means between said first and second members for biasing said one end portions apart.
- 12. An apparatus for unnailing wood pallets having first and second spaced sets of slats nailed to opposite sides of a plurality of wood stringers, said apparatus comprising:
- first and second cutting means for cutting nails;
- a first elongated support member supported at one end portion thereof and adapted to supporting said first cutting means at an opposite end portion thereof;
- a second elongated support member supported at one end portion thereof generally at said one end portion of said first elongated support member and adapted to supporting said second cutting means directly vertically above said first cutting means at an opposite end portion of said second cutting means in a manner that said second cutting means is biased away from said first cutting means and constrained to move in a vertical direction in an arc centered at said one end portion of said second elongated support member;
- said one end portions, said first and second cutting means and a cradle being aligned in a given direction with said first and second cutting means between said cradle and said one end portions when said cradle is in a first loading position;
- said cradle reciprocating horizontally between said first loading position and a second end-of-cut position near said one end portions; and
- at least one of said first and second support members including self-aligning guide means for guiding the associated said cutting means to the interface between a pallet stringer and one set of slats.
- 13. The apparatus in claim 12 in which each of said first and second cutting means includes a pair of free-rotating circular shearing blades.
- 14. The apparatus in claim 12 including first pivot means for pivotally mounting said first elongated support member at said one end portion thereof and first biasing means for biasing said opposite end portion of said first member upwardly.
- 15. The apparatus in claim 14 including second pivot means for pivotally mounting said second elongated support member at said one end portion thereof and second biasing means for biasing said opposite end portion of said second elongated support member upwardly.
