The invention relates to a size adjustable light emitting diode light system having two separate light retainers configured to couple with a front light emitting diode light strip of variable height and of variable length.
Light emitting diode (LED) lights have greatly expanded lighting system versatility as a plurality of LED lights can be configured on a strip and this strip can be cut to a desired length. Also, one or more rows of LED lights may be configured on a LED light strip to provide variations in light intensity and size of illuminated area. Also, LED lights can be various colors which enables a user to select a desired color according to a particular preference.
Lighting systems for retaining the LED light strips typically have a fixed dimension and fixed location for placement of the LED light strip. Therefore, a particular size is required for each different desired light system. Also, some light retainers enable two or more light strips to be used, however, the projected light is mixed in these systems and therefore, lights of different colors are mixed.
The invention is directed to a size adjustable LED light system that has a first and second light retainer that are configured to retain a front LED light strip of variable heights and lengths. Also, each of the first and second light retainer form a side LED light receiver channel configured to receive a side LED light. The front extensions of each of the first and second light retainers create a barrier between the front LED light strip and the side LED light, to enable different colors of light to be projected from the front and one or both of the two sides. The length of the size adjustable LED light may be adjusted by cutting the first and second LED light retainers to a desired length. The first and second light retainers have front panel channel for retaining a front panel of the front LED light strip and side panel channels for retaining a side panel over the respective side LED light or side LED light panel.
The first and second light retainers may be geometrically the same and may be oriented as mirror images across a centerline of the size adjustable LED light and on either side of the front LED light strip. Each light retainer has a front panel channel for receiving opposing ends of the front LED light strip. Each light retainer has a front extension that extends to an extended end having front panel channel and a side panel channel. Also, each light retainer has a base extension that extends to an extended end having a side panel channel. A front translucent panel is configured to extend between the front panel channels of the two light retainers and cover the front LED light strip. A first side panel is configured for insertion in the side panel channel of the front extension and the side panel channel of the base extension, of the first light retainer. Likewise, a second side panel is configured for insertion in the side panel channel of the front extension and the side panel channel of the base extension, of the second light retainer.
A side LED light receiver channel is configured between the front extension and the base extension of each of the first and second light retainers and separates a side LED light from light projects from the front LED light. The front extension may be opaque and prevent light from the side LED light from passing therethrough. Therefore, the front LED light projects a light out of the front of the size adjustable LED light, between the two front extensions, which may be a first color, and a side LED light projects light out of a side of the size adjustable LED light, which may be a second color that is different from the front LED light and/or a second side LED light. In this way, a three color light arrangement can be produced with the size adjustable LED light system.
The front panel as well as the first and/or second side panels are translucent to enable the light to pass therethrough and may include variations in translucency to produce a design such as text projected by the light. A film or coating may be configured over a portion of the panels to produce the design or text or message. Also, a front or side panel may be a color that changes the color of the light as it passes therethrough. The LED lights may be controlled to be a different color and may be configured to produce a design or text or message in a fixed or static manner or controlled to turn on and off to produce a dynamic design or text or message, such as a ticker type light that has a streaming message along the length of the light.
The base extension is configured to extend to the base side of the size adjustable LED light and may have an aperture to receive a base retainer, such as a screw to secure the size adjustable LED light to a base, such as a wall, ceiling, floor, post and the like. One or more stand-offs may extend from the base extension toward or to a base side of the size adjustable LED light to provide additional support of the size adjustable LED light to the base.
The side LED light receiver channel is configured between the base extension and the front extension and a channel extension may be configured for receiving the side LED light or side LED light strip. The channel extension may extend between the connected end of the front extension and/or the base extension and may be a planar surface for mounting the side LED light strip. The channel extension may be configured at a channel extension offset angle to direct light from the side LED light slightly toward the front side of the size adjustable LED light to prevent hot spots on a base surface or wall, and to provide more intense projection of light forward from the size adjustable LED light. The side LED light strip may include one or more LED lights or light rows configured between the front extension and the base extension.
A front LED light strip of any height, distance between the first end and second end, may be configured in and between the two front LED light strip channels of the first and second light retainer. This enables a size adjustable LED light that can be adjusted in height. The front LED light strip may have one, two or more, three or more, five or more, or event ten or more lights or light rows configured between the first end and second end of the front LED light strip. The front extensions may extend at an extension angle from a base plane, the plane along the base side of the size adjustable LED light or between the two extended ends of the base extensions, of about 35 degrees or more, about 45 degrees or more, about 60 degrees or more, about 75 degrees or less and any range between and including the values provided. The front LET light channel, the space between the two front extensions, tapers from the extended ends of the front extensions to the front LED light strip channel to provide an expanding housing for the front LED light.
A wiring channel is configured between the base extension, the front LED light strip and the base, such as a wall surface. Wiring may extend within this wiring channel and provide power to the front LED light strip and front LED lights and also to the first and/or second side LED light or lights. An aperture may be configured in the first and/or second light retainer to enable the wire to extend therethrough to provide power to the side LED lights.
The size adjustable LED light system enables assembly of a size adjustable LED light of various heights from a first side to a second side by retaining various height front LED light strips. The height of the size adjustable LED light may be about 50 mm or more, about 75 mm or more, about 100 mm or more, about 150 mm or more, about 200 mm or more, about 250 mm or more, about 300 mm or more, about 400 mm or more and any range between and including the height values provided The depth of the size adjustable LED light is the distance from the front panel to the extended end of the base extensions or the base measured along the centerline. The depth may be about 50 mm or more, about 75 mm or more, about 100 mm or more, about 150 mm or more, about 200 mm or more and any range between and including the depth values provided. Also, the size adjustable LED light system enables assembly of a size adjustable LED light of various lengths from a first end to a second end of the first and second. The length may be 25 mm or 50 mm to very long. The first and second light retainers may be made of a material that is flexible, such as plastic to enable the size adjustable LED light to bend and flex around curved base surfaces or to be configured in an arc or connected ring. The first and second light retainers may have flexible features included to further promote and enable flexibility, such as slits or cuts into portions of the panel channels including the side and front panel channels.
In an exemplary embodiment, the size adjustable LED light may be configured to extend at angles wherein a first portion of the size adjustable LED light extending along a first axis and a second portion of the size adjustable LED light extends at an angle to the first portion. The two portions may be coupled together by an angle connector or end plate, for example or may be directly coupled together.
The first and second light retainers may be made out of suitable materials for retaining size adjustable LED light strips, such as plastic or metal, or composite materials. The size adjustable LED light may utilize light retainers consisting of the first and second light retainers that are the same extruded light-race configured as mirror images across the front LED light strip.
The size adjustable LED light is configured to project light in one, two or three planes or axes. The front LED light strip projects light through the front panel and along the front light projection axis or plane. The first side LED light strip and first side LED light projects light through the first side panel and along a first side projection axis or plane. The second side LED light strip and second side LED light projects light through the second side panel and along a second side projection axis or plane. The first side projection axis or plane and second side projection axis or plane may be substantially orthogonal to the front light projection axis or plane, or within about 10 degrees or less, or even about 5 degrees or less of orthogonal. The first side projection axis or plane and second side projection axis or plane may be opposite each other, wherein light projected from the first side LED light is directed in an opposite direction from the second side LED light.
