Claims
- 1. A size-adjustable window insert assembly comprising:
- a first rectangular shaped frame with a window pane mounted therein, and an outboard facing frame surface;
- a second rectangular shaped frame having an inboard open channel defined therein adapted to receive said first frame therein such that said first frame is surrounded by said second frame, an outboard facing second frame surface, said second frame further including at least a pair of adjacent and orthogonal frame sections which are movable relative to each other to change an outboard perimeter of said second frame, and means for capturing said first frame within said channel, said capturing means including corner members forming part of said second frame, said corner members defining a pair of orthogonal channels within which respective end portions of said adjacent and orthogonal frame sections are received and slide in telescoping fashion, said corner members closely embracing said second frame sections to substantially reduce air passage between said frame sections and said corner members, said second frame closely embracing said first frame is generally air-tight engagement therewith, and
- means for biasing said second frame away from said outboard facing surface of said first frame, said biasing means permitting said second frame perimeter to be compressed in size for placement of said window insert assembly in a window frame, and then released from such compression with said biasing means pressing said second frame outboard facing surface against the window frame to engage said window insert assembly therein.
- 2. The window insert assembly of claim 1 wherein said second frame is comprised of four elongated side sections which are each independently movable inwardly and outwardly relative to said first frame, each side section including a portion of said channel therein with a spring located in each said channel portion, said springs constituting said means for biasing said second frame away from said outboard facing surface of said first frame, and further including means for sealing said second frame with the window frame along said second frame outboard facing surface and resilient air sealing means extending between adjacent orthogonal side sections and in said second frame channel within said corner members.
- 3. A window insert assembly comprising:
- a first rectangular shaped frame adapted to carry a pane, said first frame having an outward facing side edge defining a first circumference,
- a second rectangular shaped frame having a plurality of sections and an inboard open channel defined in said second frame sections within which said first frame is received and closely surrounded by said second frame in generally air-tight engagement therewith, said second frame having a second circumference which is greater than said first frame circumference, at least a pair of adjacent and orthogonal second frame sections being movable relative to each other to change said second circumference,
- spring biasing means located in said channel between said first and second frames to bias each said movable second frame section away from said first frame,
- first resilient means on said second frame circumference for air-sealing said second frame with a window frame along said second frame circumference, and
- second resilient means extending between adjacent movable orthogonal second frame sections and in said second frame channel for air-sealing between said first and second frames in the area of said movable orthogonal second frame sections,
- said biasing means permitting said second frame to be compressed to reduce its circumferential size to fit within an opening defined by a window frame and then released from said compression with said biasing means causing said second frame to engage the window frame.
- 4. The window insert assembly of claim 3 wherein said second frame is comprised of four elongated side sections and four corner members, each side section being independently movable inwardly and outwardly relative to said first frame, each side section including a portion of said channel therein with a spring located in each such channel portion, such that any of said side sections can be moved to thereby fit said second frame within the window frame, adjacent ends of said second frame side sections being received in respective corner members, said corner members defining a pair of orthogonal channels within which respective end portions of adjacent side sections are received and can slide, such that said second circumference is changed in telescoping fashion.
