Claims
- 1. A process for producing a synthetic hydrocarbon product, the process comprises contacting under isomerization conditions an olefin feed and a catalyst,
- wherein at least 50% of the olefin feed is comprised of linear olefins containing at least 12 carbon atoms, and
- wherein the catalyst consists of either a zeolitic molecular sieve with oval, one-dimensional pores having a minor axis between about 4.2 A and about 4.8 A and a major axis between about 5.4 A and about 7.0 A or a non-zeolitic molecular sieve with a non-aluminum metal which forms oxide linkages in tetrahedral coordinates with aluminum and phosphorous in a crystalline framework, and
- wherein the catalyst is free of noble or transition metals, and
- wherein the isomerization conditions are such that there is at least 5 weight % skeletal isomerization of the carbon backbone and the isomerization conditions include a temperature in the range of from 100.degree. C. and 200.degree. C., and
- wherein the product comprises a mixture of branched olefins and linear olefins.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the isomerization conditions are such that there is at least 10 weight % skeletal isomerization of the carbon backbone.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the isomerization conditions are such that there is at least 15 weight % skeletal isomerization of the carbon backbone.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein the olefin feed comprises alpha-olefins.
- 5. The process of claim 4 wherein the olefin feed comprises greater than 50 weight % linear olefins.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein the olefin feed comprises greater than 70 weight % linear olefins.
