Abstract
A ski, especially an alpine ski, having a ski body with a shovel area forming a front end of the ski body, a rear ski body section forming the rear end of the ski body and in between these two sections, a reduced ski body section forming ski body longitudinal sides, in which the width of the ski body in the shovel area is greater than the maximum width of the ski body on the rear ski body section, and the maximum width of the rear ski body section is greater than the minimum width of the ski body in the reduced middle ski body section.
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to a ski, in particular an alpine ski.

It is an object of the invention to present a ski with improved skiing characteristics that can be used universally, ensuring high stability and ease of turning.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The ski has a body with a wide width shovel area on its front end, a reduced width middle section of the body and a rear section with a width smaller than the width of the front section but greater than the width of the middle section. The difference between the maximum width of the shovel area and the maximum width in the rear ski body section is 25-31 units, each unit being preferably 1 mm.

Due to a special form of the ski body and due to the resulting special form of the longitudinal sides of the ski, the ski according to the invention optimally combines the characteristics of an easy-turning ski for use in slaloms with the stability of an alpine ski.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The invention is described below based on exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawings, in which:

FIG. 1 shows a side view of the ski embodying the present invention; and

FIG. 2 is a top view of the ski embodying the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The ski generally designated 1a in FIGS. 1 and 2, and all further embodiments of the ski according to the invention, designated 1b-1e in the following, respectively comprise a ski body 2, which is manufactured for example using the standard ski construction materials, namely with a front, upwardly curved shovel area 3 forming the front end 2.1 of the ski body 2, with a rear, slightly upwardly curved ski body section 4 forming the rear end 2.2 of the ski body 2, and with a middle ski body section 5, which forms the binding area for fastening the binding to the top of the ski body 2 and on which the ski body 2 is reduced on its two longitudinal sides 2.3 to form what is known as the sidecut. All embodiments of the ski according to the invention, as described in more detail below, are identical with respect to the basic design characteristics of the ski body 2.

In the drawings, different dimensions b1-b3, l1-l6 designate the form of the ski according to the invention, as follows:

  • b1=maximum width of the ski body 2 at position A in the shovel area 3;
  • b2=maximum width of the ski body 2 at position B in the ski body section 4;
  • b3=minimum width of the ski body at position C on the middle ski body section 5, in which position C is somewhat closer to the rear ski body end 2.2 than the front ski body end 2.1.

In addition to the above widths b1-b3 characterizing the special form of the ski body 2, different lengths l1-l6 characterizing the form of the ski body 2 are likewise specified, as follows:

  • l1=total length of the ski body 2, i.e. the distance between the two ski body ends 2.1 and 2.2;
  • l2=distance between positions A and B;
  • l3=distance of position A from the ski body end 2.1;
  • l4=distance of position A from the transition between the middle ski body section 5 and the shovel area 3;
  • l5=distance between the ski body end 2.2 and position B;
  • l6=distance between the middle M of the ski body 2 and position C.

The concavely curved or reduced longitudinal sides 2.3 of the ski body 2 comprise a changing radius of curvature R1-R3, namely in the front part of the middle ski body section 5 adjoining the shovel area 3 the radius of curvature R1, in the middle part of the ski body section 5 the radius of curvature R2 and in the rear part of the ski body section 5 merging into the area 4 the radius of curvature R3; it should be noted that while in some embodiments the radiuses of curvature R1 and R2 are identical, the radius of curvature R1 or R2 is larger than the radius of curvature R3 in all embodiments.

The values characterizing the special form of the skis 1a-1e are summarized in the following table.

In the above table, D1 is the difference between the ski body width b1 and b2 and D2 is the difference between the ski body width b2 and b3. Further, the values listed in the table are units, where one unit corresponds for example to 0.9-1.1 mm, preferably 1 mm.

For all embodiments of the ski according to the invention, the width b1 is always greater than the width b2 and the difference D1 between the above-mentioned widths b1 and b2 is approximately 25-31, for example 29.5-30.5 and preferably approximately 30 units, where one unit likewise is 0.9-1.1 mm, preferably 1 mm.

The embodiment described above substantially improves the skiing characteristics of the ski 1a-1e, in particular also under different skiing conditions or skiing styles, i.e. the embodiment of the ski body according to the invention has made it possible to optimally reconcile partially contradictory requirements for ease of turning for example of a slalom ski with the requirements for stability of an alpine ski.

The invention was described above based on exemplary embodiments. It goes without saying that further modifications and variations are possible, without abandoning the underlying inventive idea upon which the invention is based.
