Claims
- 1. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing gel composition, comprising:a.) an effective amount of odor controlling agent to provide odor control benefit; b.) an effective amount of sanitizing agent to kill or reduce the growth of microorganisms, said sanitizing agent comprising from about 40% to about 99% by weight of the composition of alcohol antiseptic; c.) from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight of a thickener; c.) optionally, from 0 to about 10% of emollient; d.) optionally, from 0 to about 1% of perfume; and g.) from about 10% to about 70% by weight of water; wherein the skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition is a gel.
- 2. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1, wherein the odor controlling agent is selected from the group consisting of cyclodextrin, water soluble metallic salt, zeolites, soluble carbonate and/or bicarbonate salts, water soluble ionic polymers, silica gel, silica molecular sieves, activated alumina, kieselguhr, fullers earth, montmorillonite, smectite, attapulgite, bentonite, palygorskite, kaolinite, illite, halloysite, hectorite, beidellite, nontronite, saponite, hormite, vermiculite, sepiolite, chlorophyll, soda lime, calcium oxide, chitin, potassium permanganate, activated charcoal or activated carbon, and mixtures thereof.
- 3. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 2, wherein the odor controlling agent is water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin; water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin derivatives; or mixtures thereof.
- 4. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 3, wherein said water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin derivatives are selected from the group consisting of methyl substituted cyclodextrins, ethyl substituted cyclodextrins, hydroxyalkyl substituted cyclodextrins, (hydroxyalkyl)alkylenyl substituted cyclodextrins, branched cyclodextrins, cationic cyclodextrins, quaternary ammonium cyclodextrins, anionic cyclodextrins, amphoteric cyclodextrins, cyclodextrins wherein at least one glucopyranose unit has a 3-6-anhydro-cyclomalto structure, and mixtures thereof.
- 5. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 3, wherein said water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin is selected from the group consisting of beta-cyclodextrins and its derivatives, alpha-cyclodextrin and its derivatives, gamma-cyclodextrin and its derivatives, and mixtures thereof.
- 6. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 5, wherein said water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin is selected from the group consisting of alpha-cyclodextrin, methylated alpha-cyclodextrin, beta-cyclodextrin, methylated beta-cyclodextrin, hydroxyethyl alpha-cyclodextrin, hydroxyethyl beta-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl alpha-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin, beta-cyclodextrin glycerol ether, and mixtures thereof.
- 7. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 6, wherein said cyclodextrin is selected from the group consisting of beta-cyclodextrin, alpha-cyclodextrin and mixtures thereof.
- 8. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 6, wherein said cyclodextrin is a mixture of alpha-cyclodextrin and beta-cyclodextrin.
- 9. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 6 wherein said cyclodextrin is selected from the group consisting of hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin, methylated beta-cyclodextrin and mixtures thereof.
- 10. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 6 wherein said cyclodextrin is a mixture of two or more cyclodextrins selected from the group consisting of alpha-cyclodextrin, methylated beta-cyclodextrin, methylated alpha-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl alpha-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin.
- 11. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1, wherein the alcohol antiseptic is selected from the group consisting of ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, and mixtures thereof.
- 12. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 11, wherein the alcohol antiseptic is ethanol.
- 13. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 3 further containing water-soluble metallic salt selected from the group consisting of water-soluble zinc salts, water-soluble copper salts, and mixtures thereof, and present at a level of from about 0.1% to about 10%, by weight of the composition.
- 14. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 13, wherein said metallic salt is selected from the group consisting of zinc chloride, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate, zinc maleate, zinc salicylate, zinc sulfate, copper chloride, copper gluconate, and mixtures thereof.
- 15. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 14, wherein said metallic salt is zinc chloride and wherein said metallic salt is present at a level of from about 0.2% to about 5%, by weight of the composition.
- 16. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1, wherein said perfume is present at a level of from about 0.001% to about 1% by weight of the composition, and the odor controlling agent to perfume ratio is greater than about 10:1.
- 17. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 16, wherein the perfume is present at a level of from about 0.005% to about 0.5% and the odor controlling agent to perfume ratio is greater than about 40:1.
- 18. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 3, wherein said perfume is present at a level of from about 0.001% to about 0.5% by weight of the composition, and contains at least about 50% by weight of the perfume composition of perfume ingredients having a ClogP of less than about 3.5.
- 19. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 19, wherein said perfume additionally comprises of up to about 10% by weight of the perfume composition of perfume ingredients selected from the group consisting of ambrox, bacdanol, benzyl salicylate, butyl anthranilate, cetalox, damascenone, alpha-damascone, gamma-dodecalactone, ebanol, herbavert, cis-3-hexenyl salicylate, alpha-ionone, beta-ionone, alpha-isomethylionone, lilial, methyl nonyl ketone, gamma-undecalactone, undecylenic aldehyde, and mixtures thereof.
- 21. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1, wherein the thickener is present at a level of from about 0.1% to about 5% and is selected from the group consisting of sodium alginate, xanthan gum, quince seed extract, tragacanth gum, starch, hydroxyethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxy propylmethyl cellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinylalcohol, guar gum, hydroxypropyl guar gum, soluble starch, cationic celluloses, cationic guars, carboxyvinyl polymers, polyacrylic acid, crosslinked polyacrylic acid, polyvinyl alcohol polyacrylic acid polymers, polymethacrylic acid polymers, polyvinyl acetate polymers, polyvinyl chloride polymers, polyvinylidene chloride polymers, aluminium silicates, bentonites, hydrophobically modified celluloses, and mixtures thereof.
- 22. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 21, wherein said thickener is selected from the group consisting of polyacrylic acid, crosslinked polyacrylic acid and mixtures thereof.
- 23. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1, further comprising an emollient.
- 24. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 23, wherein the emollient is selected from the group consisting of petrolatum, mineral oil, micro-crystalline wax, polyalkene, paraffin, cerasin, ozokerite, polyethylene and perhydrosqualene, dimethicones, alkyl siloxane, polymethylsiloxane, methylphenylpolysiloxane, and mixtures thereof.
- 25. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1 further comprising a skin sensate.
- 26. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 25, wherein the skin sensate is selected from the group consisting of menthol, eucalyptus, 3-1-menthoxy propane-1,2-diol, N-substituted-p-menthane-3-carboxamides, acyclic carboxamides and mixtures thereof.
- 27. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1 further comprising from about 0.01% to about 3% by weight of the composition of low molecular weight polyol.
- 28. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1 further comprising from about 0.01% to about 5% by weight of the composition surfactant.
- 29. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 28 wherein said surfactant is selected from the group consisting of polyalkyleneoxide polysiloxanes, block copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, and mixtures thereof.
- 30. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 1 which is clear.
- 31. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition according to claim 21 which is clear.
- 32. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing gel composition, comprising:a) an effective amount of a water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin; water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin derivatives; or mixtures thereof, to provide odor control benefit; b) an effective amount of a crystal-preventing or inhibiting agent to prevent crystallization of the cyclodextrin; c) an effective amount of sanitizing agent to kill or reduce the growth of microorganisms, said sanitizing agent comprising from about 40% to about 99% by weight of the composition of alcohol antiseptic; d) from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight of a thickener; e) optionally, from 0 to about 10% of emollient; f) optionally, from 0 to about 1% of perfume; and g) from about 10% to about 70% by weight of water; wherein the skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition is a gel.
- 33. A skin sanitizing and deodorizing wipe, comprising:a.) one or more layers of water-insoluble substrate; and b.) a safe and effective amount of skin sanitizing and deodorizing composition, comprising i.) an effective amount of odor controlling agent to provide odor control benefit; ii.) from about 40% to about 99% of alcohol antiseptic; iii.) optionally, from 0 to about 1% of perfume; iv.) optionally, from 0 to about 10% of thickener; v.) optionally, from 0 to about 10% of emollient; and vi) water.
- 34. A method of sanitizing and deodorizing the hands by applying to the hands a safe and effect amount of the composition of claim 1.
- 35. A method of sanitizing and deodorizing skin by applying to skin the sanitizing and deodorizing wipe of claim 33.
- 36. An article of manufacture comprising the composition of claim 1 in a dispensing container.
- 37. An article of manufacture according to claim 36, wherein the dispensing container is clear.
