Claims
- 1. A device for sealing an incision through a layer of body tissue into an insufflated body cavity, the device comprising:
a tube having a distal portion and a proximal portion defining a bore therebetween; a cylindrical balloon membrane having a distal end and a proximal end disposed in the bore, the cylindrical balloon membrane having an inner balloon tube and an outer balloon tube, the inner balloon tube and outer balloon tube being sealed together at the distal and proximal ends of the balloon membrane to form a closed surface that can be inflated; and an inflation port, the inflation port in fluid communication with the balloon membrane and the insufflated body cavity thereby permitting insulation fluid to enter the balloon membrane.
- 2. The device of 1, wherein the tube is rigid.
- 3. The device of 1, wherein the distal portion of the tube is cylindrical and the proximal portion of the tube is conical.
- 4. The device of 2, wherein the distal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the distal portion of the tube and the proximal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the proximal portion of the tube.
- 5. The device of 2, wherein the distal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the tube between the distal portion and the proximal portion, and the proximal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the proximal portion of the tube.
- 6. The device of 1, wherein a transverse sealing membrane is disposed in the bore and the sealing membrane is positioned at the proximal end of the balloon membrane.
- 7. The device of 1, wherein the tube is flexible.
- 8. The device of 1, wherein the distal and proximal portions of the tube are conical.
- 9. The device of 8, wherein the distal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the distal portion of the tube and the proximal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the proximal portion of the tube.
- 10. The device of 9, wherein the distal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the tube between the distal portion and the proximal portion, and the proximal end of the balloon membrane is attached to the proximal portion of the tube.
- 11. The device of 1, wherein the balloon membrane is arranged to fill the bore of the tube upon inflation, thereby sealing the bore.
- 12. The device of 1, wherein the balloon membrane is arranged to expand outside the bore of the tube upon inflation.
- 13. The device of 12, wherein the balloon membrane has an inner portion, an outer portion and an intermediate portion, at least the inner portion having a cross-section that is larger than the cross-section of the intermediate portion.
- 14. The device of 13, wherein the outer portion has a cross-section that is larger than the cross-section of the intermediate portion.
- 15. The device of 13, wherein the intermediate portion has approximately the same length as the layer of body tissue.
- 16. The device of 15, wherein the tube is disposed adjacent the intermediate portion.
- 17. The device of 13, wherein the outer portion and the inner portion trap the layer of body tissue therebetween, upon inflation.
- 18. The device of 1, wherein the balloon membrane has a lumen and the tube is disposed within the balloon membrane so that the lumen is disposed within and concentric with the bore.
