Claims
- 1. A method for enhancing the quality of sleep in a mammal comprising orally administering an effective amount of a growth hormone secretagogue.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the growth hormone secretagogue is a non-peptidal growth hormone secretagogue.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the mammal is a human.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the growth hormone secretagogue is N-[1(R)-[(1,2-Dihydro-1-methanesulfonylspiro[3H-indole-3,4′-piperidin]-1′-yl)carbonyl]-2-)phenylmethyloxy)ethyl]-2-amino-2-methylpropanamide methanesulfonate.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the quality of sleep is determined by measuring one or more parameters selected from the group consisting of a decrease in wake time, an increase in slow-wave sleep (SW) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, an increase in sleep maintenance, an increase in sleep efficiency, a decrease in sleep latency and normalization of distribution of SW and REM stages during sleep.
