Claims
- 1. An medical device comprising a catheter, the catheter comprising:
a catheter body including an interior surface defining a lumen and an exterior surface defining a first outer diameter and second outer diameter, the second outer diameter formed by a recessed area; an exit port formed within the recessed area of the catheter body to allow material to exit the lumen of the catheter body; and a pressure responsive sleeve fitting around the second outer diameter of the recessed area and covering the exit port, wherein an outer surface of the sleeve is substantially flush with the first outer diameter of the catheter body.
- 2. The medical device of claim 1, wherein the sleeve has a uniform thickness.
- 3. The medical device of claim 1, wherein the sleeve has a variable thickness.
- 4. The medical device of claim 1, wherein the sleeve includes an internal tapered edge.
- 5. The medical device of claim 4, wherein the recessed area includes a tapered edge mating with the internal tapered edge of the sleeve.
- 6. The medical device of claim 1, wherein the sleeve includes a plurality of sleeves, the recessed area includes a plurality of recessed areas around which each of the plurality of sleeves fit, and the exit port includes a plurality of exit ports, each of the plurality of exit ports formed in each of the plurality of recessed areas.
- 7. The medical device of claim 6, wherein each of the plurality of sleeves is constructed to allow material to exit the lumen of the catheter body at a different pressure level.
- 8. The medical device of claim 7, wherein one of the plurality of sleeves, located more proximate to a distal end of the catheter body, is constructed to allow the material to exit the lumen at a lower pressure differential than one of the sleeves located farther from the distal end.
- 9. The medical device of claim 6, wherein each of the plurality of exit ports is a different size to allow material to exit the lumen of the catheter body at different pressure levels.
- 10. The medical device of claim 6, wherein each of the plurality of exit ports is circumferentially displaced relative to one another along the catheter body.
- 11. The medical device of claim 1, further comprising a coating that elutes a therapeutic agent.
- 12. The medical device of claim 11, wherein the coating is an outer coating of the sleeve.
- 13. The medical device of claim 11, wherein the coating is an outer coating of the catheter body.
- 14. The medical device of claim 11, wherein the therapeutic agent is at least one or combination of drugs, proteins, or genes having an anti-inflammation, anti-thrombus, anti-proliferation, and pro-healing effect at the catheter-tissue interface.
- 15. The medical device of claim 1, wherein the sleeve is formed from an elastic material.
- 16. The medical device of claim 15, wherein the elastic material comprises silicone.
- 17. The medical device of claim 15, wherein the elastic material comprises polyurethane.
- 18. The medical device of claim 15, wherein the elastic material comprises a molded liquid silicone rubber.
- 19. The medical device of claim 18, wherein the molded liquid silicone rubber has a durometer between approximately 30 and approximately 70 on a shore A scale.
- 20. The medical device of claim 1, wherein the catheter body is formed from a non-compliant polymer.
- 21. The medical device of claim 20, wherein the non-compliant polymer comprises one of polyurethane, fluoropolymer, polyimide, polyamide, polyurethane, and polypropylene.
- 22. The medical device of claim 1, wherein the catheter body and the sleeve are formed from a material comprising silicone, and further comprising a material to prevent blocking at an interface between the catheter body and the sleeve.
- 23. The medical device of claim 22, wherein the material to prevent blocking comprises one of graphite and talc.
- 24. The medical device of claim 22, wherein the material to prevent blocking forms a surface coating on at least an interior surface of the sleeve.
- 25. The medical device of claim 6, wherein the catheter body further comprises a first and second branch and a first of the plurality of exit ports is formed in the first branch and a second of the plurality of exit ports is formed in the second branch.
- 26. The medical device of claim 6, wherein the lumen comprises a plurality of lumens and a first exit port corresponds with a first of the plurality of lumens and a second exit port corresponds with a second of the plurality of lumens.
- 27. An medical device comprising a catheter, the catheter comprising:
a catheter body including an interior surface defining a lumen and an exterior surface; an exit port formed in the catheter body to allow material to exit the lumen of the catheter body; and a pressure responsive sleeve formed from molded liquid silicone rubber having a wall thickness between approximately 0.002 inch and approximately 0.010 inch, and including a tapered edge wherein the sleeve surrounds a portion of the exterior surface of the catheter body and covers the exit port.
- 28. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the liquid silicone rubber has a durometer between approximately 30 and approximately 70 on a shore A scale.
- 29. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the tapered edge is formed by cutting.
- 30. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the tapered edge is formed by molding.
- 31. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the catheter body further includes a distal end and the tapered edge of the sleeve is proximate the distal end of the catheter body.
- 32. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the sleeve has a uniform thickness.
- 33. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the sleeve has a variable thickness being thinner proximate the tapered edge.
- 34. The catheter of claim 27, wherein the sleeve has a variable thickness being thinner proximate the exit port.
- 35. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the sleeve includes a plurality of sleeves and the exit port includes a plurality of exit ports covered by the plurality of sleeves.
- 36. The medical device of claim 35, wherein each of the plurality of exit ports is circumferentially displaced relative to one another along the catheter body.
- 37. The medical device of claim 35, wherein each of the plurality of exit ports is a different size to allow material to exit the lumen of the catheter body at different pressure levels.
- 38. The medical device of claim 35, wherein each of the plurality of sleeves is constructed to allow material to exit the lumen of the catheter body at a different pressure level.
- 39. The medical device of claim 38, wherein one of the plurality of sleeves located more proximate to a distal end of the catheter body is constructed to allow material to exit the lumen at a lower pressure differential than one of the plurality of sleeves located farther from the distal end.
- 40. The medical device of claim 27, further comprising a coating that elutes a therapeutic agent.
- 41. The medical device of claim 40, wherein the coating is an outer coating of the sleeve.
- 42. The medical device of claim 40, wherein the coating is an outer coating of the catheter body.
- 43. The medical device of claim 40, wherein the therapeutic agent is at least one or combination of drugs, proteins, or genes having an anti-inflammation, anti-thrombus, anti-proliferation, and pro-healing effect at the catheter-tissue interface.
- 44. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the catheter body is formed from a non-compliant polymer.
- 45. The medical device of claim 44, wherein the non-compliant polymer comprises one of polyurethane, fluoropolymer, polyimide, polyamide, polyethylene, and polypropylene.
- 46. The medical device of claim 27, wherein the catheter body is formed from silicone, and further comprising a material to prevent blocking at an interface between the catheter body and the sleeve.
- 47. The medical device of claim 46, wherein the material to prevent blocking comprises one of graphite and talc.
- 48. The medical device of claim 46, wherein the material to prevent blocking forms a surface coating on at least an interior surface of the sleeve.
- 49. The medical device of claim 35, wherein the catheter body further comprises a first and second branch and a first of the plurality of exit ports is formed in the first branch and a second of the plurality of exit ports is formed in the second branch.
- 50. The medical device of claim 35, wherein the lumen comprises a plurality of lumens and a first exit port corresponds with a first lumen of the plurality of lumens and a second exit port corresponds with a second lumen of the plurality of lumens.
