Claims
- 1. A slider supporting transducer elements comprising:
a base including a leading edge and a trailing edge; an air bearing extending above the base; a leading edge contact interface including an elevated contact interface extending above the air bearing; and a trailing edge contact interface at the bearing surface including a rough contact interface on the air bearing surface.
- 2. The slider of claim 1 wherein the rough contact interface at the trailing edge is formed of a textured surface structure.
- 3. The slider of claim 1 wherein the rough contact interface at the trailing edge includes a plurality of micro-pores extending below the air bearing surface.
- 4. The slider of claim 3 including channels connecting micro-pores.
- 5. The slider of claim 1 wherein the rough contact interface at the trailing edge is formed by photolithography, ion milling, chemical etching, or mechanical grinding process.
- 6. The slider of claim 1 wherein the air bearing includes a center rail and the rough contact interface is formed on the center rail.
- 7. The slider of claim 1 wherein the air bearing includes side rails and the rough contact interface is formed on a leading edge portion of side rails.
- 8. The slider of claim 1 including at least one elevated pad formed on a leading edge portion of the air bearing and extending above the air bearing.
- 9. The slider of claim 8 wherein the elevated pad is formed of a diamond-like carbon.
- 10. The slider of claim 1 including a plurality of ribs formed on the leading edge portion of air bearing and extending above the air bearing.
- 11. The slider of claim 1 including a protective layer deposited on a leading edge portion of the air bearing.
- 12. The slider of claim 1 in combination with a disc having a polished media surface.
- 13. A slider comprising:
a base having a leading and trailing edge and an air bearing; and contact interface means for contact starts and stop.
- 14. The slider of claim 13 wherein the air bearing includes a center rail at the trailing edge and side rails and the contact interface means includes an elevated contact interface at the leading edge and a trailing edge contact interface at the bearing surface including trenches on the center rail and along a trailing edge portion of the side rails.
- 15. The slider of claim 13 wherein the contact interface means includes a leading edge contact interface elevated above the bearing surface and a trailing edge contact interface at the bearing surface including a rough surface structure.
- 16. The slider of claim 15 wherein the rough surface structure includes a textured surface.
- 17. The slider of claim 15 wherein the rough surface structure includes a plurality or micro-pores.
- 18. A slider supporting transducer elements comprising:
a base including a leading edge and a trailing edge; an air bearing extending above the base; and a protective cover deposited on a leading edge portion of the air bearing forming an elevated leading edge contact.
- 19. The slider of claim 18 wherein the protective cover is formed of a layer of diamond-like carbon.
- 20. The slider of claim 18 wherein the air bearing includes a leading edge step or taper and the leading edge step or taper is covered by a deposited tribological layer.
