Claims
- 1. A compound having one of the following formulas:
- 2. A method for treating or preventing a condition in a subject, said method comprising administering to said subject a chemical compound in an amount sufficient to inhibit secretion of a protein encoded by an ARE-mRNA or modulate regulation of an ARE-mRNA in said subject; said compound having one of the following formulas:
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein said ARE-mRNA is an TNFα, interleukin, interferon, cyclooxygenase-1, or cyclooxygenase-2 mRNA.
- 4. The method of claim 2, wherein said condition is inflammation, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, septic shock, blood clot, or stroke.
- 5. The method of claim 2, wherein said subject is a mammal.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein said mammal is a human.
- 7. The method of claim 2, wherein said compound is in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
- 8. A method of forming a compound of interest, said method comprising reacting

(a) a first compound having the formula: 70(b) a second compound having the formula: 71(c) a third compound having the formula: 72(d) a fourth compound having the formula: 73(e) a fifth compound having the formula: 74wherein R1 , R3, and R6 are each a protecting group; R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and an alkyl; R4 is hydrogen; R5, R7, R8, and R9 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl, and an aryl group; X is carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur; and m and n are at least one.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein R5 is a benzyl, 4-Cl-benzyl, 4-I-benzyl, 4-F-benzyl, 4-nitro-benzyl, 4-phenyl-benzyl, or a 4-methoxy-benzyl group.
- 15. The method of claim 13, wherein R2 is hydrogen.
- 16. The method of claim 13, wherein m or n is one or two.
- 17. The method of claim 13, further comprising reacting a second said fifth compound.
- 18. A method of forming a compound of interest, said method comprising reacting
(a) a first compound having the formula: 75(b) a second compound having the formula: 76wherein R4 is hydrogen; R1 , R2, R3, and R5 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl, and an aryl group; R6 is an aryl group X is carbon or nitrogen; and m is at least one.
- 19. The method of claim 18, R5 is a benzyl, 4-Cl-benzyl, 4-I-benzyl, 4-F-benzyl, 4-nitro-benzyl, 4-phenyl-benzyl, or 4-methoxy-benzyl group.
- 20. The method of claim 18, wherein R4 is hydrogen.
