Claims
- 1. A screening machine comprising:
a screen having a periphery and a central porous region; a motion amplifier substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the periphery of the screen and not in direct contact with the central porous region; and a transducer that is substantially rigidly attached to the motion amplifier, wherein the transducer imparts a vibratory motion to the screen via the motion amplifier.
- 2. The screening machine of claim 1, wherein a portion of the transducer is used to sense the vibration of the screen.
- 3. The screening machine of claim 1, further comprising a power supply having an output that is electrically coupled to the transducer.
- 4. The screening machine of claim 3, further comprising a control circuit having an input coupled to a sensing output of the transducer and an output coupled to an input of the power supply.
- 5. The screening machine of claim 1, further comprising a control circuit having an input coupled to a sensing output of the transducer and further comprising a signal-generator/amplifier having an input coupled to an output of the control circuit and having an output coupled to the transducer.
- 6. The screening machine of claim 1, wherein the transducer comprises an electromagnetic shaker.
- 7. A screening machine, comprising:
a frame; a mesh enclosed within and attached to the frame; a motion amplifier substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the frame and not in direct contact with the mesh; and a transducer substantially rigidly attached to the motion amplifier to impart a vibratory motion to the motion amplifier, wherein the motion amplifier amplifies the vibratory motion and imparts the amplified vibratory motion directly to the frame and thereby to the mesh.
- 8. The screening machine of claim 7, wherein the motion amplifier is C-shaped and includes two ends, wherein one end is attached to the frame and the other end is attached to the transducer.
- 9. The screening machine of claim 7, wherein the motion amplifier is S-shaped and includes two ends, wherein one end is attached to the frame and the other end is attached to the transducer.
- 10. The screening machine of claim 7, wherein the motion amplifier is a plurality of C-shaped motion amplifiers linked together and includes two ends, wherein one end is attached to the frame and the other end is attached to the transducer.
- 11. The screening machine of claim 7, wherein the motion amplifier is a straight beam that is pinned at both of its ends, wherein the transducer is attached to the beam between the two ends and the frame is attached to the beam at a location between the two ends.
- 12. The screening machine of claim 7, wherein the motion amplifier is at least two straight beams, each beam being pinned at both of its ends, the beams being substantially rigidly coupled by a coupler attached to each of the beams between the ends of the respective beams, wherein the transducer is attached to at least one of the beams between the two ends and the frame is attached to one of the beams between the two ends.
- 13. A screening machine, comprising:
a frame; a mesh enclosed within and attached to the frame; a motion amplifier substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the frame and not in direct contact with the mesh; a transducer substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the motion amplifier to impart a vibratory motion to the motion amplifier, wherein the motion amplifier amplifies the vibratory motion and imparts the amplified vibratory motion directly to the frame and thereby to the mesh; and a sensor substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the motion amplifier.
- 14. The screening machine of claim 13, wherein the transducer and the sensor sandwich the motion amplifier therebetween.
- 15. A screening machine, comprising:
a frame; a mesh enclosed within and attached to the frame; a motion amplifier substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the frame and not in direct contact with the mesh; a transducer substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the motion amplifier to impart a vibratory motion to the motion amplifier, wherein the motion amplifier amplifies the vibratory motion and imparts the amplified vibratory motion directly to the frame and thereby to the mesh; a sensor substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the motion amplifier; and a control circuit having an input coupled to the sensor and an output coupled to the transducer.
- 16. The screening machine of claim 15, further comprising a power supply coupled between the output of the control circuit and the transducer.
- 17. The screening machine of claim 15, further comprising a signal generator/amplifier coupled between the output of the control circuit and the transducer.
- 18. A screening machine, comprising:
a frame, wherein the frame is substantially a parallelogram with four corners; a mesh enclosed within and attached to the frame; a motion amplifier substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the frame and not in direct contact with the mesh, the motion amplifier extending from at least one of the four corners; and a transducer substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the motion amplifier to impart a vibratory motion to the motion amplifier, wherein the motion amplifier amplifies the vibratory motion and imparts the amplified vibratory motion directly to the frame and thereby to the mesh.
- 19. The screening machine of claim 18, further comprising a sensor substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the motion amplifier.
- 20. The screening machine of claim 19, wherein the transducer and sensor sandwich the motion amplifier therebetween.
- 21. A screening machine, comprising:
a frame, wherein the frame is substantially a parallelogram with four corners; a mesh enclosed within and attached to the frame; a first motion amplifier substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the frame and not in direct contact with the mesh, the first motion amplifier extending from at least one of the four comers; a first transducer substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the first motion amplifier; a second motion amplifier substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the frame between two of the four corners; and a second transducer substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with the second motion amplifier.
- 22. The screening machine of claim 21, further comprising a sensor substantially rigidly attached in direct contact with at least one of the first and second motion amplifiers.
- 23. The screening machine of claim 22, wherein the transducer and sensor sandwich at least one of the first and second motion amplifiers therebetween.
