Abstract

A smoking article filter includes a recess to receive a filter insert unit. The filter insert unit is secured to the filter once inserted. The filter and the filter insert unit may include additives such as flavourants, colourants or sorbents.

49. An insertable filter unit for a heat-not-bum product comprising a recess to receive the insertable filter unit, wherein the insertable filter unit comprises a smoke modifying substance that comprises a flavourant comprising tobacco, the insertable filter unit also comprising filtration material.

50. The insertable filter unit according to claim 49, wherein the tobacco is in granule form.

51. The insertable filter unit according to claim 49, comprising a thin insertable part, arranged to be inserted into the recess, and a thicker non-insertable part.

52. The insertable filter unit according to claim 49, comprising retaining means to retain the insertable filter unit in the recess.

53. The insertable filter unit according to claim 52, wherein the retaining means comprises mechanical retaining means.

54. The insertable filter unit according to claim 53, wherein the mechanical retaining means comprises a screw thread.

55. The insertable filter unit according to either claim 53, wherein the mechanical retaining means comprises an insertable spike.

56. The insertable filter unit according to claim 52, wherein the retaining means comprises an adhesive.

57. The insertable filter unit according to claim 49, formed from a manually compressible material.

58. The insertable filter unit according to claim 49, having an end-on cross-sectional shape arranged to increase the surface area of the insertable filter unit.

59. The insertable filter unit according to claim 49, comprising a colourant.

60. The insertable filter unit according to claim 49, wherein the flavourant additionally comprises at least one of: menthol, lemon, orange, lime, coffee, and/or tea.
