Claims
- 1. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of about twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being a visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 6.5 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper.
- 2. The cigarette paper of claim 1, wherein said visible sidestream reducing filler is selected from the group consisting of magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, high surface area chalk, and combination thereof.
- 3. The cigarette paper of claim 2, wherein said level of magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide is less than six grams per square meter of paper.
- 4. The cigarette paper of claim 2, wherein said magnesium oxide is a reactive grade of magnesium oxide.
- 5. The cigarette paper of claim 1, including a filler comprising conventional chalk.
- 6. The cigarette paper of claim 2, wherein said high surface area chalk is present in a range of from 3.8 to 5.9 grams per square meter of paper.
- 7. The cigarette paper of claim 1, wherein the permeability of said paper is less than 11 Coresta units.
- 8. The cigarette paper of claim 1, wherein the permeability of said paper is less than 5 Coresta units.
- 9. The cigarette paper of claim 1, wherein the permeability of said paper is in a range of from 5 to 11 Coresta units.
- 10. The cigarette paper of claim 1, including a burn additive in a range of from 0 to 2.3 grams per square meter of said cigarette paper.
- 11. The cigarette paper of claim 10, wherein said burn additive is selected from the group consisting of sodium acetate, tri-potassium citrate, potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate or potassium tartrate.
- 12. A smoking article comprising a smoking material rod, which rod comprises smoking material and a paper wrapper circumscribing said smoking material, said cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight, or less of the paper, a proportion at least of said total filler being a visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 6.0 grams per square meter by weight of the paper.
- 13. The smoking article of claim 12, said smoking material comprising a proportion of expanded tobacco.
- 14. The cigarette paper of claim 13, said smoking material comprising from about ten percent to 40 percent by weight of expanded tobacco.
- 15. The smoking article of claim 12, wherein said smoking article has a circumference in a range of from about 10 mm to about 30 mm.
- 16. The smoking article of claim 12, wherein the permeability of said paper is less than 11 Coresta units.
- 17. The cigarette paper of claim 2, wherein said magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide is present in the range from 1.5 grams to 4.5 grams per square meter of paper.
- 18. The cigarette paper of claim 12, wherein said visible sidestream reducing filter is selected from the group consisting of magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, high surface area chalk and a combination thereof.
- 19. The smoking article of claim 18 wherein magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide is present in the range of 1.5 grams to 4.5 grams per square meter of paper.
- 20. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 8.0 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, said paper containing no burn additive, and wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper.
- 21. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 8.0 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper, and when the total filler is present in the range of 15 percent to 20 percent by weight of the paper, and when the sidestream reducing filler comprises magnesium oxide, then said magnesium oxide is present at less than 14 percent by weight of the paper.
- 22. The paper of claim 21 wherein said total filler is present in a range from 1.5 grams per square meter to 6 grams per square meter.
- 23. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 6.5 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper, and when the sidestream reducing filler comprises magnesium oxide, then said magnesium oxide is present at less than 14 percent by weight of the paper.
- 24. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 6.5 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper, and when the sidestream reducing filler comprises magnesium oxide, then said magnesium oxide is present in the range of 4 percent to 14 percent by weight of the paper.
- 25. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 8.0 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper, and when the sidestream reducing filler comprises magnesium oxide, then said magnesium oxide is present in the range of 4 percent to 14 percent by weight of the paper.
- 26. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of less than fifteen percent by weight of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being at least thirty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 8.0 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper, and when the sidestream reducing filler comprises magnesium oxide, then said magnesium oxide is present in the range of 4 percent to 14 percent by weight of the paper.
- 27. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being in the range of thirty grams per square meter to less than fifty grams per square meter and the total filler being present in the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 6.5 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper.
- 28. A cigarette paper comprising a total filler level content of twenty percent by weight or less of the paper, a proportion at least of the filler being visible sidestream reducing filler, the basis weight of the paper being in the range of thirty grams per square meter to forty grams per square meter and the total filler being present m the range of 1.5 grams per square meter to 8.0 grams per square meter by weight of the paper, wherein the total filler level content range is maintained such that the total filler level content is twenty percent or less by weight of the basis weight of the paper.
