Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a smoking device adapter system. More specifically, the present invention provides a smoking device adapter system that allows users to convert multiple types and sizes of containers into a smoking device.

Tobacco and other combustible, smokable substances are often consumed with a type of smoking device commonly referred to as a water pipe. Water pipes are desirable due to their “smoke-washing” effect. Water pipes such as bongs and similar devices typically include a water-filled container with a bowl and stem apparatus and a mouthpiece. When air is drawn through the combustible material via the mouthpiece, the smoke that is produced travels down the stem and into water. The air and smoke mixture bubbles back up through the water. To force fresh air into the container, which then forces the smoke up through the mouthpiece to the user for consumption, the water pipe can include a small hole known as a “carb” somewhere above the water level. This is kept covered during the initial inhalation and released after a desired amount of smoke is produced. Some water pipes include bowls that are removable to form the “carb” opening.

It is common practice to repurpose a container into a smoking device if a dedicated smoking device is not available. It can be difficult to adapt a container for that particular use without having to damage or after the structure of the container itself. Some devices for adapting containers into smoking devices exist in the known art. However, these devices have several drawbacks. For example, these devices are only able to adapt a single type of container. They cannot be used with different types, styles, and sizes of containers, therefore limiting their usability. In order to address these concerns, the present invention provides a smoking device adapter system with multiple container adapters that can be interchangeably connected with the main smoking device. This allows the user to turn multiple types of containers into smoking devices as desired.

In light of the smoking devices and related adapters disclosed in the known art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in functional and structural elements from the known art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to existing smoking devices and adapters. In this regard the present invention substantially fulfills these needs.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the smoking device adapter system. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for providing a smoking device adapter system with multiple types of adapters that allow different types and sizes of containers to be easily converted into a smoking device. Additionally, the figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the smoking device adapter system. The system includes a body 10 having an upper opening 11 and a lower opening 12 defining a channel 13, which is shown in phantom view in FIG. 2. A mouthpiece 14 extends outwardly from the body 10. The mouthpiece 14 includes a distal opening 15 and a hollow interior 16 in fluid communication with the channel. In the shown embodiment, the body includes a lower portion 21 having a uniform diameter and an upper portion 20 having an inward taper, and includes the mouthpiece 14 extending upwardly and outwardly at an angle from the upper portion 20 of the body, allowing for easy accessibility during use. In some embodiments, the mouthpiece 14 frictionally engages a mouthpiece opening of the body 10, such that the mouthpiece 14 can be removable from the body 10 for cleaning.

A bowl 17 includes a chamber portion 18 for holding combustible smoking material and a hollow stem portion 19 extending through the upper opening 11 of the body 10. In some embodiments, such as those shown in FIGS. 2, 4, and 5, the stem portion 19 of the bowl extends within the channel 13 of the body 10 and out through the lower opening 12 of the body 10. The longer stem portion 19 can extend into the volume of an attached container to transport the smoke from the combustible material into the liquid within the attached container. Further, in some embodiments, the stem portion 19 of the bowl 17 frictionally engages the upper opening 12 of the body 10, such that the bowl 17 is removably secured to the body 10. In this embodiment, the upper opening 11 of the body 10 includes a diameter that is less than a diameter of the lower opening 12 of the body 10, which provides a supporting surface for the removable bowl 17. This allows the user to remove the bowl 17 for cleaning and during use when fresh air is needed to force produced smoke through the mouthpiece 14 for consumption by the user,

In some embodiments, the chamber portion 18 of the bowl 17 is removably securable within the upper end of the stem portion 19. In this embodiment, the chamber portion 18 can be lifted to expose the hollow interior of the stem portion 19 and allow fresh air to enter as the user inhales on the mouthpiece 14. In other embodiments, and as shown in FIG. 1 for example, the body 10 includes a carb hole 24 that is in fluid communication with the channel 13. In this embodiment, the user can cover the carb hole 24 with their finger as they initially inhale to combust the smokable material in the bowl 17, and then uncover the carb hole 24 to allow fresh air to be drawn in as the user inhales on the mouthpiece 14.

The system further includes a plurality of container adapters, such that the user can select a desired adapter for converting different types of containers into a smoking device. Each container adapter includes an upper connector that is removably securable to the lower opening 12 of the body, wherein the upper connector is in fluid communication with a lower connector that is removably securable to an external container, such that an interior volume of the external container is in fluid communication with the channel 13 of the body 10. This allows the attached container to function as a liquid reservoir for a water pipe, whereby the body 10, the mouthpiece 14, the bowl 17, and the attached container form the assembled water pipe. The following paragraphs describe some examples of different types of containers being utilized with the present invention.

Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a side elevation view of an embodiment of the smoking device adapter system in use with a beverage container having a threaded opening. In some embodiments, the lower opening 12 of the body 10 includes a threaded interior 22 (visible in phantom view in FIG. 4). The lower opening 12 may be sized to correspond to the upper opening 32 of a typical plastic bottle beverage container 30. The interior threading 22 of the body 10 removably engages the exterior threading 31 on the upper opening 32 of the beverage container 30, while the stem 19 extends downwardly into the interior of the beverage container 0. In this way, the main body 10 of the device can be used in some situations without the use of the container adaptor portions of the invention.

Referring now to FIGS. 3 and 4, there are shown multiple views of an embodiment of the smoking device adapter system in use with a beverage can. In the shown embodiment, the container adapter includes a base 40 having a lower perimeter lip 42 that is configured to frictionally engage the upper perimeter edge 51 of a typical beverage can 50. The upper connector 41 includes exterior threading 43 that is removably securable to the internal threading 22 of the lower opening 12 of the body 10. The upper connector 41 defines an opening such that the interior volume of the beverage can 50 is in fluid communication with the channel of the body 10. The adapter base 40 can be secured such that the upper connector 41 aligns with the opening on the beverage can 50. This allows the stem portion of the bowl to extend into the liquid contents of the beverage can 50, converting the beverage can 50 into a water pipe.

Referring now to FIG. 5, there is shown a side elevation view of an embodiment of the smoking device adapter system in use with a beverage container having a threadless opening. In the shown embodiment, the upper connector of the container adapter takes the form of a rubber gasket 55 configured to frictionally engage a corresponding lower connector 56 disposed on an upper opening of a container having a threadless closure, such as glass bottle 60. In some embodiments, the lower connector 56 is a corresponding gasket that enables a friction fit with the upper connector 55 disposed within the lower opening 12 of the body 10. In this way, the user can easily convert a glass bottle 60 into a water pipe.
