Claims
- 1. A smokeable material comprising a base material consisting essentially of calcium-alginate fibers together with additional material which provides both a minor proportion of flavor-modifying agent and a combustion modifier, the additional material being incorporated so as to communicate selected flavor to and to allow the burning of the smokeable material in such manner as to render the smokeable material suitable for use in place of smoking tobacco.
- 2. A smokeable material as defined in claim 1, wherein the calcium-alginate fibers in the smokeable material are selectively in the form of paper and in a form got by mechanically-dividing paper.
- 3. A smokeable material as defined in claim 1, in which cellulosic fibers are included in an amount not more than 10 percent by weight of the fibers within the smokeable material.
- 4. A smokeable material as defined in claim 3, in which the cellulosic fibers comprise high-grade wood pulp.
- 5. A smokeable material as defined in claim 1, in which a coloring agent is included.
- 6. A smokeable material as defined in claim 5, in which the coloring agent is a tobacco-like brown or yellow-brown.
- 7. A smokeable material as defined in claim 1, in which a material for supplying nicotine is included.
- 8. A smokeable material as defined in claim 7, in which the nicotine is present as a sulphate, citrate, or citrate-sulphate, malonate or malate.
- 9. A smokeable material as defined in claim 7, in which a material for reducing the volatility of nicotine is included.
- 10. A smokeable material as defined in claim 1, in which up to 2 percent by weight of citric acid is included.
- 11. A smokeable material as defined in claim 1, in which powdered deer tongue or licorice is included.
- 12. A smokeable material as defined in claim 1, in which tobacco is included.
- 13. A smokeable material as defined in claim 12, in which the tobacco comprises not more than 55 percent by weight of the smokeable material.
- 14. A smokeable material as defined in claim 12, in which the tobacco comprises 50 percent by weight of the smokeable material.
