Claims
- 1. A vehicle, comprising;a chassis having a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis; an engine; a base plate securing said engine to said chassis, said base plate including a body portion having first and second sides and at least one fastening element positioned between said first and second sides and fastening said base plate to said engine, said base plate further including a first attaching portion and a second attaching portion; a first mounting element coupling said chassis to said base plate, said first mounting element comprising an inner member having a first flange and a first extension extending perpendicularly to said first flange, said first extension including a threaded opening therein, an outer member having a second flange and a second extension extending perpendicularly to said second flange, said inner member being at least partially nested within said outer member, and a first resilient material being coupled between said inner and outer members; and a second mounting element coupling said chassis to said base plate, said second mounting element comprising an inner member having a first flange and a first extension extending perpendicularly to said first flange, said first extension including a threaded opening therein, an outer member having a second flange and a second extension extending perpendicularly to said second flange, said inner member being at least partially nested within said outer member, and a second resilient material being coupled between said inner and outer members, wherein said transverse axis extends through said first attaching portion, said first mounting element including said first resilient material, and said chassis, and wherein said first and second resilient materials are positioned between said chassis and said first and second attaching portions, respectively.
- 2. A vehicle according to claim 1, wherein said first attaching portion is a first hollow portion, and said second attaching portion is a second hollow portion.
- 3. A vehicle according to claim 2, wherein said body portion and said first and second hollow portions of said base plate are integrally formed of aluminum as a unitary, one-piece element.
- 4. A vehicle according to claim 3, wherein said first and second hollow portions are cylindrical.
- 5. A vehicle according to claim 2, wherein said first and second hollow portions are longitudinally offset from each other.
- 6. A vehicle according to claim 2, wherein:said chassis has an upwardly opening recess; and said engine and said base plate are disposed within said upwardly opening recess.
- 7. The vehicle according to claim 1, wherein movement of said engine parallel to the transverse axis places at least one of the first resilient member and the second resilient member in compression.
- 8. A vehicle according to claim 1, wherein a line that is parallel to said transverse axis extends through said second attaching portion, said second mounting element including said second resilient material, and said chassis.
- 9. A snowmobile, comprising;an engine cradle having a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis; an engine; a base plate securing said engine to said engine cradle, said base plate including a body portion having first and second sides and at least one fastening element positioned between said first and second sides and fastening said base plate to said engine, said base plate further including a first attaching portion and a second attaching portion; a first mounting element coupling said engine cradle to said base plate, said first mounting element having a first resilient material positioned between said engine cradle and said first attaching portion of said base plate; and a second mounting element coupling said engine cradle to said base plate, said second mounting element having a second resilient material positioned between said engine cradle and said second attaching portion of said base plate, wherein said transverse axis extends through, said first attaching portion, said first mounting element including said first resilient material, and said engine cradle.
- 10. The snowmobile according to claim 9, wherein said first attaching portion is a first hollow portion, and said second attaching portion is a second hollow portion.
- 11. The snowmobile according to claim 10, wherein said body portion and said first and second hollow portions of said base plate are integrally formed of aluminum as a unitary, one-piece element.
- 12. The snowmobile according to claim 11, wherein said first and second hollow portions are cylindrical.
- 13. The snowmobile according to claim 10, wherein said first and second hollow portions are longitudinally offset from each other.
- 14. The snowmobile according to claim 10, wherein:said engine cradle has an upwardly opening recess; and said engine and said base plate are disposed within said upwardly opening recess.
- 15. The snowmobile according to claim 9, wherein movement of said engine parallel to the transverse axis places at least one of said first resilient member and said second resilient member in compression.
- 16. The snowmobile according to claim 9, wherein each of said first and second mounting elements include an inner member having a first flange and a first extension and an outer member having a second flange and a second extension, said first and second flanges being substantially parallel to each other, and an area positioned between said first and second flanges for receiving one of said first and second resilient material.
- 17. The snowmobile according to claim 9, wherein a line that is parallel to said transverse axis extends through said second attaching portion, said second mounting element including said second resilient material, and said engine cradle.
