Claims
- 1. A method of making a prepolymer comprising the step of reacting an alkoxylated glucose of the formula: ##STR13## wherein R.sub.1 is one of the group consisting of N-aliphatic and branched aliphatic chains having between 1 and 7 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is either of the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, and 5.ltoreq.w+x+y+z.ltoreq.50
- with the reaction product of:
- a) an intermediate made from reacting a UV-curable isocyanate with a polyalkylether, and
- b) a diisocyanate.
- 2. A method of making a prepolymer comprising the step of reacting an alkoxylated sucrose of the formula: ##STR14## wherein R.sub.2 is either of the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, and 5.ltoreq.m+p+q+r+s+t+u+v.ltoreq.50
- with the reaction product of:
- a) an intermediate made from reacting a UV-curable isocyanate with a polyalkylether, and
- b) a diisocyanate.
- 3. A soft ophthalmic lens adapted for placement over the cornea or in the eye made from the polymerization of the prepolymer of claim 1.
- 4. A soft ophthalmic lens adapted for placement over the cornea or in the eye made from the polymerization of the prepolymer of claim 2.
- 5. A soft ophthalmic lens adapted for placement over the cornea or in the eye made from a polymer having repeating units of: ##STR15## wherein R.sub.1 is one of the group consisting of N-aliphatic and branched aliphatic chains having between 1 and 7 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is either of the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, ##STR16## R.sub.4 =either of the group consisting of O and NH, R.sub.5 =either of the group of H and R.sub.3,
- R.sub.6 is one of the group consisting of the following: ##STR17## R.sub.7 is one of the group consisting of the following: ##STR18## a.ltoreq.75 for R.sub.2 =CH.sub.3, a.ltoreq.225 for R.sub.2 =H and w+x+y+z.ltoreq.50.
- 6. A soft ophthalmic lens adapted for placement over the cornea or in the eye made from a polymer having repeating units of: ##STR19## wherein R.sub.1 is one of the group consisting of N-aliphatic and branched aliphatic chains having between 1 and 7 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is either of the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, ##STR20## R.sub.4 =either of the group consisting of O and NH, R.sub.5 =either of the group of H and R.sub.3,
- R.sub.6 is one of the group consisting of the following: ##STR21## R.sub.7 is one of the group consisting of the following: ##STR22## a.ltoreq.75 for R.sub.2 =CH.sub.3, a.ltoreq.225 for R.sub.2 =H and m+p+q+r+s+t+u+v.ltoreq.50.
- 7. A soft ophthalmic lens adapted for placement over the cornea or in the eye made from a polymer having repeating units of: ##STR23## wherein R.sub.1 is one of the group consisting of N-aliphatic and branched aliphatic chains having between 1 and 7 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is either of the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, ##STR24## R.sub.4 =either of the group consisting of O and NH, R.sub.5 =either of the group of H and R.sub.3,
- R.sub.7 is one of the group consisting of the following: ##STR25## a.ltoreq.75 for R.sub.2 =CH.sub.3, a.ltoreq.225 for R.sub.2 =H .ltoreq. w+x+y+z.ltoreq.50.
- 8. A soft ophthalmic lens adapted for placement over the cornea or in the eye made from a polymer having repeating units of: ##STR26## wherein R.sub.1 is one of the group consisting of N-aliphatic and branched aliphatic chains having between 1 and 7 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is either of the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, ##STR27## R.sub.4 =either of the group consisting of O and NH, R.sub.5 =either of the group of H and R.sub.3,
- R.sub.7 is one of the group consisting of the following: ##STR28## a.ltoreq.75 for R.sub.2 =CH.sub.3, a.ltoreq.225 for R.sub.2 =H and m+p+q+r+s+t+u+v.ltoreq.50.
