Claims
- 1. A soft point bullet comprising a core of a first material plated with a second material and shaped to define a generally conical nose on one end; multiple fracture points in the second material adjacent said nose and spaced generally uniformly around said nose in a polygonal pattern; and a blank of the second material having a corresponding polygonal shape encapsulated at a selected position with the core proximate the nose.
- 2. A bullet in accordance with claim 1 wherein said first material is selected from the group consisting of lead or lead alloy and said second material is selected from the group consisting of copper or copper alloy.
- 3. The bullet in accordance with claim 1 wherein the bullet nose is provided with from 3 to 10 fracture points spaced in a polygonal pattern.
- 4. The bullet in accordance with claim 1 wherein the bullet is provided with 6 fracture points.
- 5. The bullet in accordance with claim 1 wherein said encapsulated blank is of generally conical shape.
- 6. A soft point bullet made by the method comprising:forming a bullet core of a selected geometric shape from a deformable first material; plating the deformable core with a second material to form a plated core; forming a cavity in one end of the plated core having a selected shape and having a blank of plating metal positioned within the cavity to create a blanked core; and forming the blanked core in a selected bullet size and shape having a soft point nose formed by extruding the deformable first material into the cavity and encapsulating the blank of plating material within the deformable core.
