Claims
- 1. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement, comprising electrical field coil means, a relatively stationary discharge port for the flow therethrough of said fluid, a valve seat generally circumscribing said discharge port, pole piece means effective for carrying the magnetic flux generated by said electrical field coil means whenever said electrical field coil means is electrically energized, said pole piece means comprising a pole piece end face portion, armature means at least partly situated generally within said field coil means, said armature means comprising an armature end face portion, wherein said armature means is situated with respect to said pole piece means as to thereby cause said armature end face portion to be juxtaposed to and spaced from said pole piece end face portion a preselected distance, and further comprising a one-piece valve member continuously fixedly carried by said armature means so as to at times operatively engage said valve seat, wherein said one-piece valve member is press-fitted into said armature means as to thereby move in unison with said armature means, wherein said one-piece valve member is press-fitted into said armature means a distance which will cause said armature end face portion to be spaced said preselected distance from said pole piece end face portion when said one-piece valve member is operatively engaged with said valve seat, wherein said one-piece valve member comprises a longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion, wherein said press-fitted relationship between said one-piece valve member and said armature means is achieved by said longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion being press-fitted into said armature means, and wherein said longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion comprises fluid-flow passage means formed therethrough as to extend in generally the same direction as said longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion extends.
- 2. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement according to claim 1 and further comprising calibrated fluid-flow restriction means carried by said one-piece valve member as to regulate the flow of said fluid through said fluid-flow passage means.
- 3. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement, comprising electrical field coil means, a relatively stationary discharge port for the flow therethrough of said fluid, a valve seat generally circumscribing said discharge port, pole piece means effective for carrying the magnetic flux generated by said electrical field coil means whenever said electrical field coil means is electrically energized, said pole piece means comprising a pole piece end face portion, armature means at least partly situated generally within said field coil means, said armature means comprising an armature end face portion, wherein said armature means is situated with respect to said pole piece means as to thereby cause said armature end face portion to be juxtaposed to and spaced from said pole piece end face portion a preselected distance, and further comprising a one-piece valve member continuously fixedly carried by said armature means so as to at times operatively engage said valve seat, wherein said one-piece valve member is press-fitted into said armature means as to thereby move in unison with said armature means, wherein said one-piece valve member is press-fitted into said armature means a distance which will cause said armature end face portion to be spaced said preselected distance from said pole piece end face portion when said one-piece valve member is operatively engaged with said valve seat, wherein when said one-piece valve member is operatively engaged with said valve seat that portion of said valve member in operative engagement with said valve seat is spaced from said armature end face portion a distance which is greater than the distance by which it is spaced from said pole piece end face portion, and further comprising an annular diaphragm having a generally centrally formed opening and an outer periphery, wherein said centrally formed opening is received about said one-piece valve member and suitably retained thereto, and wherein said outer periphery is held in a clamp-like fashion by said pole-piece means.
- 4. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement, comprising electrical field coil means; a relatively stationary discharge port for the flow therethrough of said fluid; a valve seat generally circumscribing said discharge port; pole piece means effective for carrying the magnetic flux generated by said electrical field coil means whenever said electrical field coil means is electrically energized; armature means at least partly situated generally within said field coil means and effective to move in response to the magnetic flux generated by said electrical field coil means; a generally cylindrical valve member comprising an integral longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion; wherein said valve member comprises first and second spaced ends; wherein said first end of said valve member and said longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion are press-fitted into said armature means; wherein said second end of said valve member comprises a valving surface; wherein said valve member is moved by said armature means so as to at times have said valving surface operatively engage said valve seat; wherein said electrical field coil means, said discharge port, said valve seat, said pole piece means, said valve member and longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion, said armature means and said valving surface are all in axial alignment with each other; wherein said armature means comprises an armature end face portion extending transversely to said axial alignment; wherein said valve seat extends transversely to said axial alignment and is axially spaced from said armature end face portion; wherein said pole piece means comprises a pole piece end face portion extending transversely to said axial alignment; wherein said pole piece end face portion is situated generally axially between said armature end face portion and said valve seat; wherein said valving surface is situated generally axially between said pole piece end face portion and said valve seat; a clearance passage formed through said pole piece means and said pole piece end face portion; wherein said valve member extends from said armature means and through said clearance passage; wherein said clearance passage provides an opening sufficiently large as to preclude said valve member touching said pole piece means as said valve member is moved by said armature means; an enlargement carried by said valve member at least near said second end of said valve member as to be situated generally axially between said pole piece end face portion and said valve seat; said enlargement being effective to prevent its movement through said clearance passage; wherein said armature end face portion and said pole piece end face portion are juxtaposed to and axially spaced from each other; and wherein said valve member by its longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion is press-fitted into said armature means a distance which will cause said armature end face portion to be spaced by a preselected distance from said pole piece end face portion when said valving surface is operatively engaged with said valve seat.
- 5. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement according to claim 4, wherein the pressure of said fluid in said discharge port is the energy employed for moving said valve member and said armature means in a direction away from said valve seat, and wherein said magnetic flux is the energy employed for moving said valve member and said armature means against said pressure of said fluid and toward said valve seat.
- 6. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement according to claim 4, wherein said valve member and its integrally formed longitudinally extending generally cylindrical valve body portion comprises fluid-flow passage means formed therethrough as to extend in generally the same direction as said longitudinally extending cylindrical valve body portion extends.
- 7. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement according to claim 6 and further comprising calibrated fluid-flow restriction means carried by said valve member as to regulate the flow of said fluid through said fluid-flow passage means.
- 8. A solenoid operated fluid valving arrangement according to claim 7 wherein the pressure of said fluid in said discharge port is the energy employed for moving said valve member and said armature means in a direction away from said valve seat, and wherein said magnetic flux is the energy employed for moving said valve member and said armature means against said pressure of said fluid and toward said valve seat.
