Claims
- 1. A process for adding solids to a reactor, said reactor contained in a system for adding solids to and withdrawing solids from a reactor, said process comprising:
- mixing solids with a pressurized flowing stream of transport liquid to supply a slurry of solids in the transport liquid, introducing the slurry into the reactor; and
- maintaining a set flow rate for the pressurized flowing stream of transport liquid during the adding of solids whereby said set flow rate is maintained independently of pressure changes in the system.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the solids are maintained in a transfer vessel, the transport liquid is introduced into said transfer vessel at a first point above the upper level of solids in the vessel and at a second point below the upper level of solids in the vessel and controlling the solid concentration in the slurry by proportioning the amount of transport liquid introduced at the first and second points.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the proportioning is controlled to maintain a set density for the slurry contained in said transfer vessel.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein the transport liquid is a hot transport liquid obtained from a separation and recovery system for the reactor.
- 5. A process for withdrawing solids from a reactor, comprising:
- providing a transport liquid at an elevated temperature from a hot transport liquid system; combining a stream comprising solids from the reactor with said transport liquid to provide a combined stream; introducing the combined stream into a transfer vessel for depositing the solids in the transfer vessel; subsequently cooling the solids in the transfer vessel by passing a cooling liquid through the transfer vessel from a cooling liquid system separate and distinct from the hot transport liquid system.
- 6. The process of claim 5 and further comprising wherein during said cooling of the solids, the cooling liquid system is operated as a closed loop recirculating cooling liquid system wherein the cooling liquid is circulated through the transfer vessel and a cooler.
