Claims
- 1. A process for preparing an aqueous fluidized suspension of a nonionic polymer comprising the steps:
- (1) dissolving sodium formate in water to prepare a solution containing at least 28% by weight sodium formate based on the combined weight of the water and salt, and
- (2) suspending a nonionic polymer from the group of hydroxyethylcellulose, hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose, methylcellulose, hydrophobically modified ethylhydroxyethylcellulose and polyethylene oxide in the sodium formate solution to prepare a fluidized polymer suspension with a Brookfield viscosity ranging from 1000 to 10,000 mPa.s at 25.degree. C.
- 2. The process of claim 1 where the nonionic hydroxyethylcellulose or ethylhydroxyethylcellulose is hydrophobically modified with a C.sub.8 to C.sub.24 alkyl or arylalkyl group.
- 3. The process of claim 2 where the arylalkyl group is nonylphenyl.
- 4. The process of claim 2 where the alkyl group is cetyl.
- 5. A process for preparing an aqueous fluidized suspension of a nonionic polymer comprising the steps:
- (1) preparing a xanthan gum solution in water;
- (2) dissolving 28% to 35% by weight based on combined weight of water and salt of sodium formate in the solution; and
- (3) adding a nonionic polymer to prepare a fluidized polymer suspension which is stable for one month or longer.
- 6. The process of claim 5 where in step (1) 0.10 to 0.20 percent by weight xanthan gum is added.
- 7. The process of claim 6 where 30% to 35% by weight sodium formate is added in step (2).
- 8. The process of claim 7 where the nonionic polymer is selected from hydroxyethylcellulose, hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose, hydrophobically modified ethylhydroxyethylcellulose, methylcellulose and polyethylene oxide (PEO).
- 9. The process of claim 8 where the nonionic polymer comprises 15% by weight or more of the stable fluidized polymer suspension.
- 10. The process of claim 9 where the nonionic polymer is hydroxyethylcellulose.
