Claims
- 1. A sonic dispersion system for controlling the provision of at least two materials from at least two separate material sources and for mixing said materials and providing a dispersion of said mixture from a single point source to a use apparatus comprising mounting means, sonic dispersion means mounted on said mounting means and including an active material dispersion surface for providing a material dispersion, material input means connected to separately supply material from each of said two material sources to said active material dispersion surface, said material input means including first material directing means mounted upon said mounting means for directing a stream of a first of said two materials against said active material dispersion surface and second material directing means mounted upon said mounting means for directing a stream of a second of said two materials against said active dispersion surface, and control means connected to control the ratio of material passing through said first and second material directing means, said control means being operative to vary said ratio.
- 2. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 1, wherein said control means includes sensing means operative to provide sensing signals indicative of the operating condition of said use apparatus, said control means operating in response to said sensing signals to vary the ratio of material passing through said first and second material directing means.
- 3. A sonic dispersion system for dispersing material from at least one material source, said sonic dispersion system comprising mounting means, sonic dispersion means mounted on said mounting means for providing a material dispersion, said sonic dispersion means including an active, vibrating, material dispersion surface, and a material directing means mounted on said mounting means for receiving material from the material source, said material directing means including material injection means positioned relative to said sonic dispersion means for directing a stream of material against said material dispersion surface, said material directing means including means for changing the position of said material injection means relative to said sonic dispersion means.
- 4. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 3, wherein said means for changing the position of said material injection means includes a shifting means for moving the material injection means in a direction parallel to the longitudinal center line of said sonic dispersion means.
- 5. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 4 wherein said means for changing the position of said material injection means includes means for varying the angular orientation of said material injection means relative to said material dispersion surface.
- 6. A sonic dispersion system for controlling the provision of at least two materials from at least two separate material sources and for mixing said materials and providing a dispersion of said mixture from a single point source to a use apparatus comprising mounting means, sonic dispersion means mounted on said mounting means and including an active material dispersion surface for providing a material dispersion, material input means connected to separately supply material from each of said two material sources to said active material dispersion surface, said material input means including a first control means to control the flow of material from one source to said active dispersion surface and a second control means to control the flow of material from a second source to said active dispersion surface, and computer means connected to control the operation of at least one of said first and second control means to provide a material flow which varies as a function of variations in the operating condition of said use apparatus, said computer means including sensing means operative to provide sensing signals indicative of the operating condition of said use apparatus and control signal generating means connected to receive said sensing signals from said sensing means and operative in response thereto to provide control signals to control the operation of at least one of said first and second control means.
- 7. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 6, wherein said computer means includes ratio control means connected to said control signal generating means, said ratio control means operating to control the ratio of material from said first and second material sources supplied to said active material dispersion surface.
- 8. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 6, wherein said material dispersion surface extends angularly away from a central, terminal apex, said material input means including a first material directing means mounted upon said mounting means for directing a stream of a first of said two materials against said material dispersion surface, the flow of material from said first material directing means being controlled by said first control means, and second material directing means mounted upon said mounting means for directing a stream of a second of said two materials against said dispersion surface, the flow of material from said second material directing means being controlled by said second control means, said first and second material directing means being angularly oriented relative to said material dispersion surface so that material directed thereby against said material dispersion surface is redirected toward and beyond said apex.
- 9. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 8, wherein said material dispersion surface is conical in shape.
- 10. The sonic disperison system as set forth in claim 8, wherein said material dispersion surface includes first and second flat surface sections having a juncture therebetween which forms the central apex, said first material directing means being positioned to direct a stream of said first material against said first flat surface section and said second material directing means being positioned to direct a stream of said second material against said second flat surface section.
- 11. A sonic dispersion system comprising mounting means defning a chamber having a central longitudinal axis extending in a first plane, sonic dispersion means mounted upon said mounting means and including an active material dispersion surface extending angularly away from a central terminal apex, said sonic dispersion means being mounted with the central apex thereof projecting into said chamber in a second plane which differs from said first plane and being directed toward the central longitudinal axis of said chamber, said apex being laterally spaced from said central longitudinal axis, and material injection means mounted on said mounting means in spaced relationship with said material dispersion surface for directing a stream of material against said material dispersion surface, said material injection means being angularly oriented relative to said material dispersion surface and operative for directing a stream of material under pressure across the space between said material injection means and said material dispersion surface to cause said material to impinge against said material dispersion surface at a point spaced substantially from said apex so that material directed against said material dispersion surface is thereby redirected toward and beyond said apex.
- 12. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 11, wherein said material directing means is mounted to direct said stream of material in a direction away from the central longitudinal axis of said chamber.
- 13. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 12, wherein said material directing means includes at least two nozzles projecting into said chamber, one such nozzle being positioned to direct material against said dispersion surface on one side of said apex and the remaining nozzle being positioned to direct material against said dispersion surface on the opposite side of said apex.
- 14. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 13, wherein said dispersion surface includes first and second flat, inclined surface sections having a juncture therebetween which forms said central apex, one of said nozzles operating to direct material against said first surface section and the remaining nozzle operating to direct material against said second surface section.
- 15. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 13, wherein said dispersion surface is conical in shape and extends away from said apex.
- 16. A sonic dispersion system for dispersing material from at least one material source, said sonic dispersion system comprising mounting means, sonic dispersion means mounted on said mounting means for providing a material dispersion, said sonic dispersion means including an active, vibrating, material dispsersion surface having an outermost end terminating in a central apex positioned in spaced relationship relative to said mounting means, said material dispersion surface extending angularly away from said central apex, and a material directing means mounted on said mounting means for receiving material from the material source, said material directing means including material injection means for directing a stream of material against said material dispersion surface, said material injection means being angularly oriented relative to said material dispersion surface so that material directed against said material dispersion surface is thereby redirected toward and beyond said apex, and shroud means mounted on said mounting means above said material dispersion surface to divert air flow moving toward said material dispersion surface from above.
- 17. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 16, wherein said material dispersion surface is conical in shape and extends angularly away from said apex.
- 18. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 16, wherein said material dispersion surface includes first and second flat surface sections having a juncture therebetween which forms said central apex.
- 19. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 16, wherein said material directing means includes at least one nozzle angularly oriented relative to said material dispersion surface.
- 20. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 16, wherein said mounting means defines a chamber having a central longitudinal axis extending in a first plane, said sonic dispersion means being mounted on said mounting means with the central apex of said material dispersion surface projecting into said chamber in a second plane which differs from said first plane and being directed toward the central longitudinal axis thereof, said apex being laterally spaced from said central longitudinal axis.
- 21. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 20, wherein said material directing means is mounted upon said mounting means to project into said chamber and direct said stream of material in a direction away from the central lontitudinal axis of said chamber.
- 22. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 16, wherein said material directing means includes a plurality of nozzles positioned at intervals around said material dispersion surface, each of said nozzles being angularly oriented relative to said material dispersion surface.
- 23. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 22, including a first nozzle positioned to direct material against said material dispersion surface on one side of said apex and a second nozzle positioned to direct material against said material dispersion surface on the opposite side of said apex.
- 24. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 23, wherein said material dispersion surface includes first and second flat, inclined surface sections having a juncture therebetween which forms said central apex, one of said nozzles operating to direct material against said first surface section and the remaining nozzle operating to direct material against said second surface section.
- 25. The sonic dispersion system as set forth in claim 23, wherein said dispersion surface is conical in shape and extends away from said apex.

No. 4,100,896; which is a division of Ser. No. 293,377, filed Sept. 29, 1972, now U.S. Pat. No. 3,893,434. The disclosures of each of the aforementioned parent applications are incorporated by reference in the present application.
